    Re: Motorcycle tax doubling!

Is anyone else suprised at the statement in the petition:-

'This makes a nonsense of the revised rates of vehicle excise duty, as motorcycles tend to emit less CO2 and use less fuel than cars, with the average CO2 output from motorcycles at 110g/km.'

The average bike is 110g/km given the relative size/weight of bikes I find this rather high, given my car is only 120g/km but must be approx 6-8 times the weight of my Alp, I do realise that cars are more aerodynamic than bikes. I currently get similar mpg out of both 50-55, so am not that suprised. I did have a 125 a few years ago that delivered over 100mpg but given 50mph could only be achieved downhill and it probably and weighed less that 100kg this is not that great.

In the last few years car manufacturers have really tried to improve things but does the bike industry need to do the same?

I do agree it is wrong that cars under 100g/km don't get taxed but small bikes it is going up, still the Government need to get some money to pay all these bonuses to hard presses bankers!!
