    Smile Bike insurance

Hi, I've joined the site on behalf of my son who's just bought a a Royal Enfield Bullet in India. He's having problems getting insurance - most companies only go up to 125cc. Can anyone help with advice on this? Thanks! Joanna

Temp while he's travelling. But he's travelling for some time! India now, then Nepal on the present bike, then Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia and Australia with the option of getting other bikes. Thanks!

Has he tried an insurance broker in India? Most travel insurance that covers motorcycle use will only cover rented bikes and not personally owned bikes.. Other than that try ringing up some specialised companies like Footman James, Adrian Flux, Carole Nash, Bennets, Aviva (soon not to be known as NU)

My brother in law insured an Enfield in India. Not sure what coverage applies to foreign travel though.

They are not big on vehicle Insurance in India. Most of the people I talked to about it tend not to bother and hope for the best. Good on him for buying an Enfield. I was thinking about buying one and shipping it home as they are about a quarter of the price over there.

I off there again on Saturday to work for three weeks and may just do it this time. I suppose I need to find out about emissions and SVA etc. It may simply not be possible to get them up to the necessary standards

It does not work out as you cannot buy the kit needed to convert it when you get here without buying it from Enfield who charge enough to make it cheaper to have bought it here. We looked into it.

Thanks. I suspected as much. There is one hell of a markup though, In India I can buy a 500 bullet for Rs 73,000 which is a little over £1000. Over here the same bike costs £4400. There is a huge profit being made somewhere
