Re: I would like to apologise in advance...

16th January 1981 at approx 4:35 PM. Thats when I quit.

A tool salesman , came to visit me in work and I commented that I hadn't seen him for a while. He told me he had been in hospital with a chest problem and went on to describe the ward he had been nursed in. !!!!!!
A specialist chest ward in the old Kilmarnock Imfirmary, and how 95% of people in there were in for smoking related issues. He described lying in the middle of the night behind his wee curtain , listening to the wheezing and laboured breathing going on round about him and how often the sound would suddenly stop and the next sound was the sound of a trolley being wheeled in !!!!!!

I pulled a packet of Dunhill out of my overall pocket and crushed it into a bin there and then , and went home and got my old bicycle out the shed !! Never looked back.

You just need the right moment and the right trigger to make it an effective quit for ever.

    Hang in there Tom.
    2011 Triumph Tiger 800 - "Black Pussy" - MMMM Nice !!!
    2000 Suzuki DRZ400S - "Ol' Yella" - very bright
    2011 Peugeot V-Clic 50cc - "Scoot" - It's my wife's, an enjoyable ride.

    I have a house , but I can't guarantee it's safe !!

Today was NOT a good day. BUT, Ive dipped into this thread a few times to reread how some of you quit and just read the banter and the messages of encouragement and I just want to say thanks. Seriously. Ive held out to the end of day three. But only just. I'm now going to bed, and about two hours ago emptied my wallet and gave the cards and cash to the wife to hide for the next few days as I KNOW I'm going to do something stupid.

Oh wait, I just did - the wife and kids have all my money and cards now.

    1 full week over

The family are slowly comming out of their hiding holes and back in from the garden shed

I still subconsciously reach for a cigarette and it jarrs a bit when I think s**T I dont have any - I don't smoke

Ok - boldly marching into week 2

Thanks for all the words of encouragement. It helps. A lot.

YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

Brilliant - first week over with. Brilliant!

    Decided
RD07a, reg in 2001, Black, heated grips, short screen, Scottoiler, Givi top box and panniers, DataTag, full Riky Cross crash bars, Baglux tank cover, Facet pump, mostly 200 miles to reserve and presently a lot happier since being loved up at Chad's hospital for sick ATs!

I think Wee Jacks story should be on the back of cigarette packets to be honest.

Warning signs that Smoking Kills are not effective in my view. There isnt a single smoker that doesnt know that.

But Wee Jacks story - *shudder*

You can just picture it can't you. Dingy ward, dim lighting, yellow curtain around the bed, wheezing and rasping breathing noises, and then, silence.

    *shudder*

Yep, the picture he painted in a few lines is 100 times more effective than the whole plethera of statements of the obvious.
