I also thought this was sad....such a shame especially because of his age!!![]()
I think all drivers and riders should be re-tested every five years, just my opinion, let the fun begin![]()

I agree...especially when people go over a certain age...some elderly people are dangerous....they are too slow which makes others get annoyed and act dangerously!
.....I Was Born On The Dark Side...Its Not My Fault.....
dont get me started on this subject..........eyesight cr*p.....reactions non- existant.......but oh no, i`m a safe driver......nice cheap insurance....never had a prang in 300 years of driving on my post office licence !! makes my blood boil. why are they still on the road ? transport has long left behind the man in front waving a red flag. absolutely fuming about it all.....and he owns a bl**dy ROVER !!![]()
Just seen this on the news, what a bloody mess it was,
Dose make you wounder how they are seen as safer drivers when at that age with no upto date medical they could be blind for all DVLA know, and i know boy racers are bad as well,
My dad declered he had a bad back (53) and then had to pay 80 or 90 pound for a medical from one of dvla's registered doctors when his own doc could of told them straight away that he was ok to drive for no cost, yet my grandad is deff as a post but at 85 has not needed to have a medical.
Theres no wounder people dont tell them about medical problems.
it seems such an obvious precaution to monitor peoples fitness and capacity to drive or ride once they pass a certain age..
kind of makes you wonder why it has not been addressed by legislation especially in this health and safety concious and nanny state we seem to be moving towards right now... it seems such a glaring anomally to leave it in its currrent overly lenient form.
has it got anything to do with elderley lords and peers and JP's manipulation of the law or is it merely shaped by accident ststistics and insurance reports perhaps suggesting that this kind of occurrence is actually quite rare despite this story being such an extremely moving and tragic one.

i feel sad for every one involved , the driver of the bike obviously, and the old rover driver, i go pass a garden center where the entrance is on the brow of a hill . it's lethal """" if your behind an old person they will turn in wirthout warning or they pull out in front of you, it should have a goverment health warning as youy approach all garden centers ,
but don't shout at them we will all be old one day , god willing..
I had my licence withheld by DVLA because I am registered disabled.
They said their doctor was unsure I could drive an HGV. I phoned them and they were adamant , until my Harley Street surgeon phoned and threatened to sue them for calling him a liar. My licence arrived the next day.
We've been through the retest argument many times on this forum... My original views on that still stands..
I'm all for a system that at least checks on vision, reaction and knowledge of the highway code being done on a regular basis for all drivers.. That would keep a lot of oldies and also young idiots off the road by proving they're not fit for driving..
