Seeing that The Ferrari FXX was obviously driven by the "STIG"
Who was in this case Michael Schumacker. and the "STIG" is reported as being Ben Collins.
It reinforces my belief that the "STIG" is not one person but all the Test Drivers for the cars they have on the show.
If you produced a super car would you want a stranger to drive it and produce a possible bias result or would you supply your test driver to get the best out of the car?
Therefore the "STIG" remains hidden behind the Dark visor and Helmet to conceal the real truth of multiple personas.

I was cycling behind a lorry with crane arm attached this morning and it had a sign on the back saying something like: "I used to be the Stig until they fitted this bloody 56mph restrictor"

    Made me chortle anyway.

There's probably one main stig driving most of the cars, they're not going to get a special test driver to come over just to drive some Golf around the track, but there's definitely been some replacement stigs when things get exotic.

There's that time when they had the Renault F1 on the track, suddenly the stig wore Arai instead of the iconic Simpson.

There is a stig who teaches the Celebs how to drive the track and does the mundane type of cars but the real Supercars must be the companies test drivers.
    Hence his face remains hidden.
