I find it strange that it is only on this model, O.K. so pete has a lemon and it is using final drives like chains but I have not heard of any other model with such a defect.

I had a final drive collapse on an 1150, I was riding back from Amsterdam with a guy on a 1150GSA when the final drive died and I know of others.
Remember for every bad story you here there are loads more happy 1200 owners about we just don't publicise it.

I told Chad last night there is something wrong elsewhere with your bike possibly mis allignment with the gearbox shaft or something.

I was with Chad when he took the call from Vader and that was what I said at the time - something is out of line somewhere, causing this , there are stresses being induced somewhere in the train. 4 bearings in what ? 2 years - less ? thats not right !! I think a nastygram to BMW to do a "root cause analysis" on this is needed.

Sorry to hear this Pete, it's a bummer, and no doubt very frustrating.

We joke with each other about BMW/KTM reliability , but it's not nice when something that is supposed to be your haven from the rest of lifes issues brings you even more hassles.

Just out of curiosity, how much has that bike run anyway, in total?

(And be glad it's eating final drives, not valves like some other peoples GSAs.)
