Report it to the police, especially if there is CCTV to back you up. Probably nothing will happen but making threats to kill in front of a child is not really on and, if they are really tooled up, they need to be 'educated'. Reporting it gets it on the log as a crime and it's places with hotspots in crime stats that will get the attention. Without reporting it, it's below the radar so their actions have no consequence other than giving your little one nightmares, pissing you off, and giving 'youths' a bad name.

I wish I could say I can't believe that, but the truth is it's what I've come to expect from people (not just young people) these days. You did bloody well to keep your cool, though I expect that having your daughter there ensured you had to. Really sorry to hear of this happening to anyone, but I second reporting it to the police, especially if it was caught on camera.

Had it been me, I know the outcome would have been a very different one .

Wise words Whealie, but the wisest words of all...............

Boot the little scumbags right in the hole !!

We don't get knife totting little scrotes round our way , because all the responsible adults have the same opinion as me !! Neither do we have car crime or house breaking and vandalism is relatively low.

I love country life and old fashioned values !!!

Yes you did the right thing Tom with having the little one there, wanting to give him a good bat is all good and well but you have to put the needs of your child before yours so i think you did the right thing.

He sounds like a right muppet and he'll get his one day i'm sure of it...

Re: I really do despair of youths!!!!

Blood-boiling stuff, but by no means restricted to Britain.

I've a friend who's working out in Dublin as a contract architect, and he's been mugged twice so far. The upside is that while he's only about 5' 7", slightly built and in his mid-forties, he spent a good deal of his youth in boxing clubs, and then moved onto kick-boxing: you couldn't put him down with a big stick. I got a phone call late one evening from an unfamiliar mobile number, which turned out to be my friend. When I enquired as to a) the lateness of the hour and b) the unfamiliar number, he explained that he'd been waiting for the last train home when some numbnuts tried to mug him for his phone. I asked how it had all gone, my friend replied with considerable understatement "He didn't have his chops down, so I put him on his arse." My friend had then, not unreasonably, taxed the mugger the contents of his pockets (30 or so Euros) and his phone. He was on his way home in a taxi paid for by said mugger, whiling away the time by using up the bloke's credit phoning all and sundry. When the phone ran out of credit, it went out the window.

Attitude readjustment: fairly cheap at £30 Euros plus a phone...

The problem we have created over here is that if you now smack or hit your child in anyway they tell teacher and you get done for child abuse.
I think if that is the case then putting the in institutions is abuse and the only way to cure it is to treat them is to kill them, it would save the state a lot of money in having to keep them and save the planet as one less mouth to throw abuse.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

When we were kids you started off a blank piece of paper, neither respected or disrespected. To get respect you had to earn it.

Nowadays you start off being told everyone has respect, without first having to earn it, and don't you dare let anyone take that respect away.

That is why in addition to what happened to Tom, today I saw young men riding their bikes the wrong way down the road, walking out in front of traffic knowing that the cars will have to slam on their brakes, chucking litter all over the place, even when there was bin five yards away, playing that tinny **** music from their mobile phones while in Tesco and so on. (on another day I might have had another list)

Challenge them and you are disrespecting them. They don't understand that they had to earn my respect first.
