    3 points...

Hey, I dont know where else to find this out other then phoning the DVLA, so I was hoping you guys may be able to help?...

I have held my full motorbike driving license since the 30th of november 2006. The first year I had the license I got an SP30 Fixed penilty (3 points), I picked them up in may 2007. So the 2 year first time driver restriction to 6 points is now up, however... A month and a half ago I passed my full car test. At the weekend I was driving my bike and I went through a speed camera doing approx 67mph in a 60 zone, I didnt see a flash but that dosnt mean anything. If I get another 3 points added bringing my grand total up to 6 points will that be transferable, and thus mean that as I have only just passed my car test (remember the 2 year restriction to 6 points) that I will loose my license for all, both or none of my licenses?

Im a bit freaked out about this as my job relies on me having a drivers license. Cheers for any advice you may be able to give.

I was also wondering...Police camera vans...Whats the deal? If your driving along and the van is on the other side of the road facing towards you, do the only have cameras facing out of the back? Or do they have cops sitting in the front with those radar gun things? So...your driving along, the front of the van is facing toward you, your over the speed limit they tag you but you drop down to what ever the legal limit is, and then you pass the back of the van, do they then write your reg number down? Remember we have no license plates on the front!!!

Again, cheers for any imput on this stuff, and sorry if I shouldnt be asking any of this on this forum. Cheers alt.

Moved to chatter for more views..

When I passed my car test in 2004 I was told that because I already had a full licence I wouldn't be liable for the 6 point rule, also at that time I didn't need to do the theory.

Now as far as the theory it's changed and in the last few years even those with a full motorcycle licence now needs to do it.. No idea if the rules regarding the 6 point limit have also changed will though see what I can find for you.

OK form what I can gather the NEW DRIVERS ACT is only relevant from your first full licence..

BUT that's not official and you might still wish to approach DVLA on the matter

True. I would still advise slowing down a bit though. You'll have had the same number of points in two years as I have had in a lifetime.

    Re: 3 points...

Most police forces use 10% plus 2-3 mph as a rule, so you'd have to be doing 68+ in a 60 zone and that's real speed not indicated speed for as Stuart says speedos' tend to over-read.

As far as police camera vans you'll find that unike the old days when bikes were safe from forward facing cameras they now also tend to have subsequent cameras on the side and the front of the vans designed to capture as much detail of the passing vehicle as possible.

If you were reading 67 you should be safe, but as always the ONLY way to be safe is to stay beneath the speed limit

So you have collected as many point in two years as I have in 30+ years.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

    Re: 3 points...

I know from the readings on my sat nav that the Speedo on the AT reads about 5% faster .....so by sticking to the indicated speed on the speedo I feel quite safe from speed cameras

    Re: 3 points...

Yeah I know its alot to clock up in two years and Im kicking my self for it! I have nothing to blame but myself and I do try to keep it under. I know this is no excuse but I live in Scotland, every week I drive from Stirling up to Aviemore using the A9, if anyone knows this road then you will know it is a very fast road, and also very boring! I know where the camaras are, but last friday as a result of having driven the same drive (I know its no excuse) countless times, I was listening to my mp3 player enjoying a good tune, and then realisation as I remembered where I was s*!t...and its too late! Deary me. Im not a boy racer, if I was I would have bought a ninja or gsxr or something. Sorry, I think im trying to explain myself to myself!?!?!?

Anyway, cheers for all the imput to you all, this is a grand site!
