swine flu
Looks like my daughter has it.
Confirmed case at her school. One of her friends (the whole family) on anti-virals. Her cough yesterday was, according to the doc, missing a raging temperature. She has that now - 39 degrees and rising. We're back in the docs at 11.

Re: swine flu
Right, she's been swabbed. There is an acute shortage of testing kit and the one that had arrived by special delivery today was short of a swab, but the doc found an extra one from elsewhere.
That will take several days to confirm, as the lab is now hugely busy with the outbreak centred on her school. As we were leaving for the docs another mum dropped off a letter the school was issuing from the PCT. And the doc just rang when I got back as Lewisham have now got central distribution points for the anti-flu drugs so my wife, who was getting the prescription while I brought Molly home, has had to go from the chemist back to the doc's (luckily just up stairs). It seems like the proverbial has well and truly hit the fan round here. Amazingly the advice is for the rest of us to carry on as normal, except clean up after our daughter a bit more often and more thoroughly (door handles, the TV remote, and stuff like that). The thing is it is just a horrible flu-style cold - really bad cough and headaches, aching limbs etc. The drugs are for five days only though. I am hoping the rest of us will be unaffected. My son, who had a heart op at three weeks, gets annual flu vaccinations (and stays as far away from his sister as he can) so is probably OK. Fingers crossed.

Re: swine flu
Just had a thought:
Swine flu is all the rage. It's in the papers and on TV. It's not nice, but only those already ill die from it. It will all be forgotten in a week or so. My daughter will recover and be fine. The kids that Make-a-Wish help wont be so lucky and won't get the press coverage. Their parents won't find it as easy to be chipper - though they probably will put on a brave face and keep smiling. Makes me glad I did the Longest Day ride. Sort of puts it all into perspective.
