One for the Space Cadets ..............

There have been a few posts/threads over the last few weeks regarding my "old gitishness" - memory issues - torn muscles - acting like a big kid , when I'm old enough to know better ...... etc etc.

I'm 50 , will be 51 in October ........ (memory can still do sums )

I was (literally) conceived while Sputnik 1 was beep-beep-beeping in earth orbit during the winter of '57/'58. I wasn't even eating solid food when Yuri Gagarin was the first man in space.

Were you one of the wide eyed generation who sat in front of the black and white in the early hours of 20 July 1969 and listened to ......... "contact light"........."main engine shutdown" ........ "Houston , Tranquility Base .... the eagle has landed ... beep" ?? Well this one is for you ........

Apollo 11 Manual: An Insight into the Hardware from the First Manned Mission to Land on the Moon: Chris Riley: Amazon.co.uk: Phil Dolling: Books

Mine arrived on Monday and I've had my nose in it ever since. It will shortly take pride of place beside my other assorted Haynes and Clymer workshop manuals.

    RRP £17.99 going for £11.50...............bargin !!!!!!
    2011 Triumph Tiger 800 - "Black Pussy" - MMMM Nice !!!
    2000 Suzuki DRZ400S - "Ol' Yella" - very bright
    2011 Peugeot V-Clic 50cc - "Scoot" - It's my wife's, an enjoyable ride.

    I have a house , but I can't guarantee it's safe !!

Tried, and usually failed, to be allowed to stay up late to watch the Saturn 5 launches. Parents can be so cruel..............

However, did see the first shuttle launch and landing. Good grief, that was during my apprenticeship - how time flies............

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

Wasn't it just the most remarkable era though ?? we thought ANYTHING was possible and engineers were kings.

    Apollo space program
    Forth Road Bridge opened
Concord flew for the first time
Hovercraft started high speed ferry services
    The QE2 was launched
Nuclear power , promising "electricty so cheap , it will not be worth charging for !!!"

Where did it all go wrong ? was that when the accountants become kings ?

They found out no one wanted the glow in the dark by product in their back yard so it cost more to dump it than it cost to make it.

I remember the Apollo missions being shown on the television quite vividly, especially the last few when they were roaring around in the rover.

I also remember collecting copies of each mission logo from some breakfast cereal box or other and getting my poor mum to sew them on my jacket. Doesn't seem that long ago to me, it's a bit scary how much time has actually passed.
3 Africa Twins/280,000 miles. If it's happened to one of mine, it's gonna happen to one of yours.....eventually.

1 Varadero/17,000 miles ridden (of 40,000 miles on the bike), it's all still new to me!
