Hi Sharribee
I bought myself a horse 6 weeks ago and have been riding twice a day since then.No experience previously and only one "real" lesson.....you gotta walk before you can run and i have come off 3 times cantering, most recently yesterday and am now sporting a badly grazed right elbow and stiff neck. Its a dangerous game riding horses....luckily my "offs" were in the ring so the sand cushioned the falls...for whats its worth. The first time i actually galloped...what seemed to me like a full-on gallop anyway...i was smiling like a chesire cat...what a buzz...really.The owner/horse relationship is coming on a treat too....He spotted me arriving at the stables a few days back and gave out one of them welcoming horsey noises.Keep at it because its well worth it.Bumps and bruising is all part of it...get better soon.
A good riding tip,if you dont mind me saying,is to lean back in the saddle...its natural to lean forward but you have to learn to straighten the back and lean slightly back.Heres a couple of pics of my 1hp steed.Hes called "W"...or uvedoble in spanish. He is a Dutch Warmblood.
