Possible lift up to the National Meet available from the South West.

I think I'm going to be hiring a van, bringing the marquee and chucking the bike in the back, GS or XR not sure which yet.
So there should be room for another bike if anyone's daunted by the ride up and is happy to share driving in the van to give me a break.
All the costs are covered by me anyway so no worries on that front.

I'll be coming up on the Thursday, camping at Pooley Bridge and then going up the next day and coming back all in one day if I can make it on Sunday.

I could even pick someone up along the way if needed as I'll be going M5, M6.

I'm not definitely doing this just weighing up my options.
First come first served. Let me know.
Posting this in Chatter so that people not planning to go and who wouldn't read the National forum, may now be able to.

Great - I've been trying to source a reasonable one to hire up here without any luck. Also been in discussion with the site manager about us putting one up and he say's we can pitch it for nothing

Now all we'll need is a midge eater

Muffs I like,,,,,, midges, well, I'm not so keen on!

Muffs are good, keep your ears warm! ,,,,,, Well what else?

Midges are horrendous, on the west of Scotland their roughly the size of helicopters and bite like vampires!

SteveT, what on earth is a midge eater?

    Jim,

Don't you worry about the midge -- you bring along that malt you were on about and I guarantee you won't feel a thing

btw a midge eater is one of those calor gas powered thingys. Catches them in a big net, like sieve. You then have to ( yeah right ! ) put the bag into a freezer and freeze the little buggers to death.

We had one at work -- they have to be up and running for a considerable time for them to work, but I have seen huge bags of the little swines

Of course, the minute you dig a hole ( happens a lot in my game ), then yer DOOOOOOOOOMMMMMEDDDDDD

steve - Is it likely to be windy and exposed where we are?
Just thinking about extra guy ropes and stuff for the marquee.
Btw the one thing I don't have is a generator do you know if we could get electricity from anywhere , e.g. Electric hook up, or do I need to find a generator?

Re: Possible lift up to the National Meet available from the South West.

    Hi Dave.

Regarding wind!, the site is exposed and we do, occasionally have some strong gusts of wind in these areas, so extra guy ropes etc would be useful.
As for a generator - personnally I don't know of anyone with one, but the site has electrical hook up points all over the place, so for a small cost (don't know how much) we could plug into the mains (yes, we do have mains electricity this far north - what do you think all those bloody tall white wirlygig things do, stir the air ).
I'll e-mail the site manager today and get back to you via pm regards the cost of a mains hook up for a couple of days.

Whealie - if I get a MIDGE eater (as apposed to a firkin mirkin eater ), you can eat as much midge as you like once the machines up and running. Could feature them as one of your culinary delights - "Road Kill Cooking with Whealie - Mushy Midge soup" or "Midge en Cruet!"

    Steve T
