    The nod

    Hey all,

I spend a lot of my weekends on the A59, need to get that girl to move into lancs!!!

As a new biker I am getting used to the nod from fellow bikers and returning or instigating it myself.

But my question is....... Why doesn't everyone do it? Is there some form of etiquette that I am unaware of?

Seems hogs and sportsbikes are the least likely to nod......

    Re: The nod

Yeah I always give a nod or tip my head to one side, although I much prefer the French style of lifting the right leg off the pegs and outwards.

There is no etiquette it would seem, and sportsbikers are either going too fast and have their eyes on the next corner or car in front, whereas hog riders have the problem with either tassles flapping in their faces, or are just too preoccupied with trying to look mean in their leather chaps and handlebar moustaches to acknowledge a fine chap on an adventure bike!!!

I suggest you remember the miserable ones, and ignore them when you see them out of fuel or broken down!!

    Re: The nod

There is no excuse not to nod.

I'm relatively new to all this engine-propelled-2-wheel malarky, but got used to doing it quickly.
We've got a police bike that do the rounds round here and he even nodded at me the other day with full lights and sirens blaring en route to saving the day...

    How nice!

mind you he was on one of those new massive BMW's and being a law and tax obiding citizen, I probably part funded his shiny new wheels.

No a nod is not good enough, I want to toot the siren, flash the lights and a quick spin round the block.

    Re: The nod

I used to always nod at others when I was on a marked bike, it was something I always did on my own bike and I saw no reason to stop doing it just because I was on different wheels. Some people nodded back, others put blinkers on

Still do it now, but I've noticed a sad decline in the number of responses I get, so if you see an extremely hi viz bloke on a blackbird on the m62/m60 around greater manchester feel free to wave or nod.

    Re: The nod

The bike cops round here nod sometimes and I'm only too happy to oblige back.
Must do a bit more leisure riding though as most of mine seems to be commuting and the commuting biking community can be a bit miserable!

Will do, but when i am on the 62 I am usually too busy clinging on for dear life! I am kind of getting used to wind but it still leaves me with a sweaty palm. it will be better when i get my next bike which will be faired.......
