today I have mostly been fixing things....

Started with sewing a button back on a pair of trousers.

Then one the shelves in the fridge broke when I was packing away the shopping (which I had bought). I fixed that with a strip of aluminium.

Then I decided to fix the dishwasher which had packed up yesterday. Had to remove the front cover and tinkered with micro switch on the door until it worked again.

Then I fixed the broken wing mirror on my TA.

While in the garage I sorted out some old batteries and managed to get the optimate to start charging an old Land Rover battery. Fixed my stanley knife, found the blades for my junior hacksaw I have been looking for ages, and sharpened the lawnmower blade.

Then while on a roll I decided to look at and fix the automatic swing bin in one of the kitchen cupboards (broken for about 2 years). It is fixed now.

Then I cooked dinner - gammon with "caramelised peppered pineapple", green beans, homemade sweet potato wedgies, and homemade cucumber and mint yoghurt mix. I have neverdone the pineapple that way and it is FAB

All in all a very very satisfying day. I will celebrate with beer and whisky later

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

    Ha ha! Quite a day!
Well, I tidied up the flat and did a load of washing, then tried starting the Land rover, it's not been running for a couple of months. First crack and it started, on gas (LPG) too!
Then in to Elgin for some bits and bobs. Aldi's are doing a nice Suave for £2.99 just now which would go well with the haddock I'd planned for tea along with chips and mediterranean vegetables, roasted of course!
On the cooking front, here's an interesting way to use up bananas out of the fruit bowl. Take two bananas and slice them in half both ways, Melt some butter and demarara sugar and add a little ground nutmeg and cinnamon. Add the bananas to the sauce and give them a good coating. Add a good dash of Famous Grouse or any malt whisky and heat. Serve bananas and sauce over vanilla ice cream, delicious!
Nice sweet to go with your gammon mate!
A plug for the Buccaneer filling station in Elgin here, 1 litre Famous Grouse £16.. Bargain!
Nothing bike related, it was raining today!

Caramelised Peppered Pineapple.......made up but based on a suggestion in sainsbury's. Dead easy....

Drain a can of Pineapple rings(then drink the juice - Chef's privilige) Dust the pineapple rings in lots of ground black pepper and drop into the frying pan you have just fried your gammon in. Turn the heat up really high and turn after 2-3 mins or when its starts to look a bit golden brown, but not burned. do the same the other side. Serve on top of the gammon.

Cucumber Mint and yoghurt. Dead easy. Peel about 3 inches of cucumber, slice in half longways and scoop out the seeds with a teaspoon (then eat them - Chef's privilige). Finely chop the two halves and put in a bowl. Add about a teaspoon of mint sauce, add yogurt until the mix looks about right. This is best made about 1/2 hour before eating. If I was doing this to go with curry adding a bit of Garam Masala and a sprinkle of chilli powder is good.
