I thought the bike didn't look too bad...It was the roid pumped, white teethed,'fashion' guru that got my goat...
They were Americans so nothing new there then. They didnt even know what an Africa Twin was, kept insisting it was a Transalp with stickers.
I thought what was done was technically good, ie ligher, usd forks etc but if they knew what an @ was, then something sympathetic to its heritage would have been an option and more interesting.

Oh God, the humiliation!!!!
Actually, I had no idea what an Africa Twin was back in those days either, but learnt fast.
I bought that bike as a winter hack to save my sportsbikes, never cleaned it once, and thought that it was a real minger. On reflection, it weren't that bad really, and it was only after the show that I realised how nice it was BEFORE the makeover. Although I was all smiles, I didn't really like the finished article, even though the standard was actually pretty high.
The wiring needed a bit of sorting, and the fuelling was waaaay off, so it never run perfectly, and to be very honest, I'd already bought an RD04 by the time it arrived back from the 'States.
I sold the "AT/CRF Bastid" to fergus1964 on this forum who had some wild plans for it, but I never did find out what he did with it. He already has a rare Swiss model RD03, so I was keen to hear how he was gonna finish it off.
Right, off to wax my parts and dye my eye lashes luvvy darlings!!!

It was on fleebay a few months ago Bob, recognised it from an earlier screening of your show.
Don't remember if it sold, but it made the top ten "most watched".
I thought it looked good. Its nice to see updated/modded 80's trailies with updated running gear. You see loads of souped up Z's and Slabby GSXR's with modern kit on them and personally I think they look great. For the terminally skint amongst us (with the help of a shed and a mate in a machine shop) to realistically make a good looking rally raid machine for a couple of grand works for me![]()
