    Re: Beach Race.

They should have waited an hour to start the race the start straight was only about 15 - 20ft wide when they started it.
The crash was really bad there is talk of two deaths.

Can't see that the death has been confirmed yet, but saw all the traffic queues. Looked like total grid lock.
There was also a mini riot with people trying to get a refund.

    Re: Beach Race.

The crash was mentioned on the 9 oclock news. No mention of a death. The poster on mxtrax that mentioned the death said his sister worked in ITu and confirmed a 16 year old had died. They might not be connected events.

    Re: Beach Race.

.."17 riders were transported to hospital after the incident, where they were treated for their injuries. One rider sustained more serious injuries in the crash and was subsequently transferred to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol, where he is currently undergoing evaluation by medical staff." .. nobody is 'officially' dead!

amazingly daft to run the race under those conditions.

"It was immediately obvious that the crash was a serious one and that a number of the injured riders would require medical attention on the track. As a result there was no hesitation in stopping the race to allow the medical teams safe access to the injured riders. Unfortunately, one of the riders involved in the crash sustained more serious injuries. At this time we haven't received any additional information as to the extent of these injuries, but he is currently undergoing medical treatment in Bristol and we are obviously hopeful that he will make a full recovery."....Gareth Hockey

that said the Telegraph is printing..."One of the motocross riders was in a serious condition and we had three healthcare professionals including a doctor treating him at the scene before taking him to hospital..."Jeremy Hughes, Commissioner Operations at St John Ambulance in Avon

    editorial by line is:
A beach-front bike race at Weston-super-Mare, in Somerset, which is considered one of Britain's most challenging motorcross events, was cancelled after a massive pile-up left 21 riders injured

    Re: Beach Race.

A Day Out Not To Be Repeated.
I went to the race. It was evident that the organisers had got the tide wrong, the wind had banked the tide further up the beach.
I spent £60 for three entry tickets and £10 parking and £7 on hot dogs for about 20 minutes of racing and two hours of waiting for the race to restart. I feel sorry for anyone who was due to race after all the prep work on the bikes.
I am annoyed that it took so long for the organisers to cancel the event. I guess they have no intention of giving any refunds!
I would sugest in future they have a contingency for such a problem. If I was racing I would not be too keen on having a metal fence on the first straight. Why not safety ribbon then 3m gap and metal fence and crowd.
I doubt I will go next year. Also, where does all the money go from the entrance fee. I wouldn't mind if the riders had a bigger prize!
I hope the injured riders make a good recovery.

    Re: Beach Race.

I think it's a very expensive event to put on.
I know in past years when the event has been cancelled say to weather or poorly supported the organisers have had to deal with losses.

I guess it will be the same this year, although I would expect they were insured.

I hope they don't change anything, other than learn from any mistakes here. This is a great spectacle and there aren't many places that you can see so many bikes all in one place.

    Re: Beach Race.

The revenue from this has got to be massive. Entrance fees for riders over the 3 days, the paying public, the vans supplying refreshments (of a nature!!) Jeez a large sum of money and they were so sh*te at giving the public any clue on leaving. Is it being re run next week Dave??
Although I guess it will be a lot less riders there ,as many wont be able to afford to do it on 2 weekends on a row.
It seems some nasty injuries and hopefully the claims that someone died on this is rumour control at its very worst, but still the organisers want shooting for inadequesies (Spelling?) and poor performance
It has got to be the most famous race in Europe for the dirt bike world and a lot of chat has been they would never be allowed to hold it again. I wonder how true this may be.. such a pity if it does die.
