DC here is a pic of the two connectors I need the retainers for, if you can possibly help?

Both connectors go from the motherboard to the keyboard on a HP 6910p laptop.

Small connector has 7 contacts on the ribbon cable, and the brown retainer pushes down to hold the cable in place.

Larger connector has 30 contacts on the ribbon cable, and the brown retainer folds over to hold the cable in place. It has a sort of raised triangular section in the centre of the retainer.

I figure while I'm at it, I might as well mention what other bits I need, in case anyone has a cache of stuff overloading their desk. I've located some of these at good prices on eBay, but I'll try my luck here first!!

EDIT: The 2x ZIF ribbon connector retainers mentioned above

14.1 WXGA LCD panel with 1280x900 resolution

SATA 2.5" Hard Disk (any size)

    HP caddy for a 6910p

    DDR2 Ram (any size)

HP optical drive (pref CD & DVD)

A few odd-sized case screws that have been poached

    Cheers

    Bob

First one is just a ribbon connector, looks like it's lost it's top half..

The larger on is an SODIMM socket, try RS for both

I would be surprised if the larger connector was for a memory module. From the photograph, the module would be sticking straight out from the board which would be very odd indeed. Memory connectors usually hold the memory module flat against the board, 'cos of the space limitations see? Also I cannot see any form of clips built into the connector that would hold the memory module secure. Oh, and not enough pins on the connector either.

Just my inane ramblings. Ignore at your leisure.

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

Both connectors are definitely for the keyboard connection.

The receptacles are not damaged, the only missing part is the brown locking part, which on the small one is a push down mechanism with two lugs each end, and the larger one is a tilting/turning mechanism. Both types squeeze the ribbon against the contacts of the surface mount connectors.

Okay, so how about trying some of that hot melt glue to hold the ribbons in place. In my experience it is quite easy to "snap off" the blob of glue should you ever need to.

Oh, and ignore this as well if you like.

Silly silly man, I will completely ignore that suggestion!

Because I'm an anal old fool when it comes to the right bolt for the bike, I'd prefer to get the retainers. If I can't, I'll try using a nylon wedge between the ribbon and socket to force the contacts together, then MAYBE, just maybe, some hot melt!

Sorry it does look like a dimm socket..

There are quite a few large manufacturers for nylon sockets/plugs and most don't sell to the public, just look how hard it is to find some molex plugs

HP will not sell the parts seperately you'll either have to buy a whole board or if the other half is on the keyboard a whole keyboard.

What spec is this laptop becasue with your list of parts I don;t actually think it'll be worth it
