So why was it butchered in the first place? It would be a shame to spend money on it and find the motherboard is toast because it was dismantled in a hurry and ripped apart - or that is was dismantled 'cos the motherboard was faulty.

The LCD screen was broken when it was a few weeks old.
Every thing else is OK, and it became a donor for other sick laptops.

    It's a Core2 Duo T8100.

Just bagged an HP DVD ROM from a mate, so that's off the list, and have an option on a screen for £40.

I'm just trying to get it going on a budget, so I can get away from the lappy I currently use which is getting a bit temperamental.

I'm hoping to go down the Windows 7 route with it as well, since I've only heard positive comments so far, and my experience of Vista is that it's flaky and annoyingly slow sometimes.

    Hi Bob,

According to http://getpartsonline.com/hp-compaq.html and search on hp 6910p, there are alt least 3 different motherboards. Identifying the board may lead to identifying parts for the board and the correct connectors used. I have searched my pcb component supplier, Rapid Electronics, who have similar connectors, but it is difficult to identify a correct replacement which should include the parts you require. Even from the photo, the larger connector may be 32 or 34 pins, it is difficult to be certain. I am sorry I cannot be more helpful but to source a single component in the UK for a piece of kit not manufactured here may be job too far.
