HELP! I call upon all XRV computer & IT geeks!

A quick question for all the computer geeks that frequent these here parts!

Does anyone know where I can purchase component parts for HP laptop motherboards?

Specifically, I have been given a laptop (that is better than my own) which has a few minor issues, which I am capable of dealing with, but I need a couple of silly little plastic items which are missing from the board. These are the little locking retainers that hold the two ribbon type cables into the surface mount connectors on the motherboard. HP are only interested in selling me a new motherboard, and there are no dead/spares on eBay.

The laptop I've been given is a couple of years old, and suffered a broken screen very early in it's life. It was cannibalised for some parts, most of which I can get/buy, all except these stoopid little bits of penny plastic.

    Any ideas?

Better still, are there any HP component level engineers, or IT types that fix lappy's on our humble forum??

    HELP!!!!

I am the master of bodges, so will consider all sorts eventually, but it would be nice to do it properly as it's quite a decent lappy.

Thats the thing Kymmy. I did a favour for a mate who gave me this lappy as a Thank you, as he knew mine had been playing up for a while. The thing is like new, but cannibalised, and I can scavenge practically all the bits I need for it, bar these silly little retainers (and some DDR2 memory). Worse thing is, I've no idea of their correct name or who manufactures the connectors, so searching isn't easy.
The motherboard is perfect, other than these two silly bits.

HP weren't very helpful, but this may because they were all going to a christmas party or suffering hangovers!!!

Thanks DC, I'll take some piccies right now.

You'll not get the clip part of a ZIF ribbon connector socket separately. If you could find the component manufacturer (lots of Googling required) you may be able to source them and then just change over the clip but it will need to be the exact same one from the same manufacturer unless you fancy desoldering and resoldering teeny tiny stuff.

How about a cunning combination of matchsticks, rubber bands and epoxy

The only other option is new motherboard or keep an eye out for a spare HP motherboard to cannibalise on eBay.
