Got to have a rant at this one----4x4's

    HOW HYPOCRITICAL ARE SOME PEOPLE.................

After doing everything possible to keep 4x4's of the roads with the purpose of discouraging people from buying them, tax increases, bans from driving and parking in certain places...........

NOw appears some councils are are scrounging the use of them (sorry asking for help)for bits of jobs they haven't accounted for.....

So my take on this is if these cars are destroying polar caps, fully responsible for global warming and any other c**p that can be blamed on them then it must be ok to destroy the planet when it suits local government........

I can't wait for some tit to ask me for help!!!!!!!!

AS a member of a mountain rescue team we have been asked several times to 1) go help motorists who get them selves stuck (from the plod)
    2) go and help the ambulance people.

The answer to number 1 was no chance why have not the police got 4x4's with suitable tyres.
The answer to 2 was no only if its life and death, because why has not the ambulance athority got a Snow plan and vehicles to do the job they get paid my guys are free labour whilst their fat drivers laugh and drink Tea.

and neither does Jay, he was being flippant. We work really closely with the ambulance service and have a good relationship with them but we also have lots of problems when they do not recognise our expertise and go into areas they shouldn't be putting themselves and the casualty at risk. When it is raised we are told that they are the professionals and we are just there to do the donkey work

The incidents we are called to are not searches, they are not rescues and they are not mountainous it's because this country and our emergency services are poorly prepared to deal with extremes of weather. It's the fact that we are volunteers and a charity and yet we are expected to step in when the real "professionals" can't cope. In extreme weather we are expected to drive for the ambulance service and police because their vehicles and drivers are not equipped or prepared to deal with it. Sometimes it's very frustrating because at this time of year we have enough of our own work to do with the public taking to the pretty white hills and falling over and then hurting themselves.

Re: Got to have a rant at this one----4x4's

Iv been on standby 4 times since xmas, every thing from recovering cars and trucks stuck to picking people up from cars and train stations were cars cant get and roads are blocked,

Went out all last night in the landrovers (good fun) to portsmouth to help southern gas/electricity as the vans were getting stuck all over, and now on call again for them.

Just gets me how so meny people have no idea how to drive in snow and ice but still attempt it, 11 pm on Tue on the A3 i could not beleave the amount of cars all over the road sliding and spinning reving the balls out of them to get up hills. Winds me up.

Speaking of which... I've noticed that lots of newish 4x4s on wide summer tyres are being driven at speeds way, way past what's sensible on wet snowy roads in freezing weather...

That'll be the "my car is 4x4 so I'm fine" brigade, and I'm sure you lot are all too familiar with them. Things get altogether too exciting trying to stay upright while dodging a 2.5 ton landrover trying to floor it up an ice-covered Amsterdam canal bridge...

(Meanwhile the old git I saw pottering about in his grimy series 2 on big skinny tyres seemed to be doing just fine indeed... )

I really do admire the likes of you guys that go out and rescue people and have a real need for a 4WD vehicle,
But after this all the yuppies etc will be standing on top of their dungheaps crowing about the advantages of a 4wd vehicle and trying to use it to warrant driving the things,
Do not get me wrong these vehicles have a place and the people that genuinely need em (farmers, rescue services etc) deserve em,
But i cannot see the need to drive little johhny and jenny to school is a good need for a range rover, a ruddy fiat panda will do it, most of these vehicles are owned for s**** value, at the end of the day they only have the contact patch on the ice as a normal car, and it is how you drive that matters,
And around here you see holiday makers with em thinking they can drive the damn things flat out in single track lanes and everyone else will get out of the way, they think they are indestructible and sod the local people,
Of all the vehicles i have driven in snow and ice over the years my favourite will always be my mini 1000, and i have have had county 4wd drive tractors sliding sideways down the road in the past
but at the end of the day if they can afford the fuel then let em carry on just if they learnt a little respect for ither road usersit would be a good thing
