    leagality of removing idicators?

    hi all,
whats the legal side of removing Indicators/mirrors from a bike that has them fitted as standard by manufacturer for road use and mot.

sick of them being busted off when dropping bike in ice, when I did me bike test on me Dt100 removed them as old 2 strokes werent much cope on producing electric [more damp squid than a flash] and examiner never said anything mind you was back in 1982 when first 2 part test came out and examiners were on foot. he wasnt light weight so couldnt run just sent me on a sq route and sat down and waited.

    cheers all,

just thinking of getting a greenlaner and using for the winter with them their chains as a commuter.

I've always understood that if indicators are on they have to work but if you remove them fine,

Another option would be to fit smaller indicators that sit inside the width of the pannier frames - I put some Motrax ones (aprilia type round fitting short stalks 50mm and bendy £15) on when I had a Transalp and they were big and bright enough to be as visible as the Honda ones but out of harms way

As for mirrors that's a personal choice

02 RD07a RWB, Powerbronze tall screen, Remus Grand Prix, TT crash bars, TT pannier frame, Zega style panniers, Alpos top box,TT bar risers, TT headlamp guard, Heated grips, mainstand, Heidenau K60s for road and light offroad, TKC80s for the dirty stuff, Scottoiler, Autocomm, TT Zumo mount, Zumo 550 and most of all A BIG GRIN !!! Oh, and a very nice RD04 HRC coloured Marathon Replica

if indicators are originally fitted they must work - if you remove them, you must also remove (or completely tape over) your headlight and rear light (including the brake light) for a daytime only MOT. the exception is a dedicated off road bike without rear footpegs which can be mot'd without indicators. nip into a decent bike MOT centre and they will confirm exactly what the score is

Anything atfer 1986 has to have indicators fitted to it, the only exception to this being offroad motorcycles which are road registered thats from the MOT perspective so xr and things dont need them. If you want them a good set for offroading and laning Kawasaki used to fit them on the KMX/KDX and several other machines which had realy soft rubber arms so they would just bend up and spring back.

I changed mine because as on your's the Honda ones stuck out and were knocked a few times by inconsiderate pedestrians

I also did the Morocco trip with them on. They stood up to the vibration really well and I did not need to change any bulbs
