    Who doesn't have a TV?

With some recent comments about what is, or not, worth watchin I just wondered how many people on here (given the time they spend on here!) don't actually have a TV or license? (I would happily pay a nominal fee for radio though)

I for one (still a goodlooking, cough cough youthfull 33! ) have never owned a TV. I have shared a house once or twice with one and have contributed towards a licence just because it's fair but never bought one myself. People tend to instantly stick you in the fluffy bunny and tree hugging hippy rebel box when you tell them you don't have a TV, but far from it! I will happily kill and eat anything with fur on (or scales come to think of it!) and am a fully paid up member of the petrol head carbon footprint bashing brigade. 4 vehicles and still counting!

I have always found I have been busy doing other bits and pieces, or read or listen to the radio or engage other human beings in conversation . I must admit a lot of my time is spent with hobby and family related stuff, so thinking about it???! in actual fact it may be cheaper to buy a licence and cop out of all that cr@p and just sit on a sofa!

I also find it bizarre how historically with broadcasting they could ever enforce people just picking up the bilge (in my opinion) they pump out?? Their choice to fill the air with it surely? Do you think ET's get harrased and threatening reminders constantly that they are a guilty until proven innocent enemy of the state unless they prove otherwise by buying a licence! all mine bypass any acknowledgement straight into the shredder and composter!

Just one more thing before I get verbally bashed! yes there are some very good, in fact some fantastic programs produced by the BBC, and I contribute to that by way of buying originals (as opposed to downloading) of programs like 'Blue Planet' etc.

What about "Have both and couldn't live without it" option. Not my choice but it should be there.

Re: Who doesn't have a TV?

Like you have said, living in a shared house it is only fair to contribute to the TV license, so that is what I do here. I could quite happily not have a TV and just use the online services (which you don't need a license for) to watch what I want (such as Top Gear etc) and if I want to watch a film use the computer. Although having a largish screen (i.e. bigger than laptop) in a more communal room to watch a film on is good.

Have little interest in TV personally but have the whole Sky/Virgin stuff for the kids - son's cricket was the driver.

Would pay the licence fee for Radio 4 and TMS alone, even if I got rid of the TV. And then there's the BC website and fantastic online resources.

It should not be called a TV licence fee, as it covers the whole BBC output.

I don't tend to use the tv myself (I generally watch what I like via iplayer or similar)but it seems to be on most of the evening as background noise (the missus watching her soaps ) I would be perfectly happy to do without

Re: Who doesn't have a TV?

Haven't had a TV for atleast 10 years, but do admit to ogling other peoples TV's when I'm at their homes!

Personally, I don't think there's enough on the airwaves to make me want one, although watching DVD's on a laptop can be tricky when you have company, so I MAY get a proper DVD player and monitor one day.

On the occasions I watch telly content, everything I need is on one of the iPlayer/OnDemand sites FREE.

The only thing that could possibly sway me are some of the documentary channels which are very good.

Just finished the DVD boxed set of "Ripping Yarns" which was excellent.
