    Re: Potholes and Road Maintenance

Someone told me our council took on a new policy for pot holes

If you hit a pot hole which hasn't been previously reported to them, they won't pay out for damages.

Ok, so if they don't know its there they can't fix it seems fair, BUT!
Who says if its been reported? well they do of course

I don't know how much truth there was in it, but it seemed very sneaky to me

Think the councils are getting hit by small claims, not necessariy vehicle damage but push bikes and the like -- no, not motor bikes-- that would be way too much

Fyi -- the type of temporary reinstatement is an emulsion based material. It is delivered cold and can be stored for quite some time in the open --- completely useless for permanent work. It's called Delumac or Delay set macadam and all it does is fill in a temporary hole until such time as a permanent renstatement is carried out.

Abloutely crap stuff when the tenperature rises -- just oozes out of the pothole and picks up on your tyres. If you have a patch outside your driveway, give it a quick dusting of dry cement, lightly brush it in - that will stop it picking up.

    Hope this helps

All the more reason to have an adventure bike.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

About 6-7 years ago I had the idea of setting up a web site that would let people log pot holes they had reported to the local council; then anyone who had an accident could check to see if it had been reported, and when.

Thankfully people more highly motivated than me actually did it

    www.fixmystreet.com

    www.potholes.co.uk

www.fillthathole.org.uk (regretably a product of the utterly fascist CTC, but I dare say it does the job)
flat out on utterly inappropriate tackle
