    An opinion please....

Hi, I'm new to there 'ere supermoto/enduro lark but after having an array of road bikes I fancy either the XR650, CCM R30 or KTM (not yet sure of any particular model, but no lower than 650).

Well all know about Honda build quality, but what about the others, I would be using it mainly for road use so will be a s/moto. Can anyone shed any light on these makes good or bad.

I know this is a Honda site and getting pulled towards the XR for some reason. Thanks for any help

If the DR650 is anywhere near as much fun as a DRZ400sm ... then, I'd say Go for it ! ... (excuse the quaint vernacular ... but I am awfully out of touch with 2010 England and such)

Hi Merc, the XR is really suspended for off-road use, but can be tweeked to be a good road s/m. The others you mention are roadbikes, with suspension to match. XR is a mega hoot though, I adore it. No e-start, oil every 600, but what a toy!

It may not have the power but it may have a more bottom friendly seat.
Try taking them both for an extended road test and see which is the more comfortable.

    Hi Merc,

Are you planning on doing proper distances on it? If so, you might want to look at something a bit more user-friendly, like a DR650...

If you mainly want to use it for tearing around (ie. no long tours), consider a DRZ400SM or KTM690SM or SMR. They're great fun, but not if you have to sit for 150 miles on the motorway each way to your destination...

    Gone but not forgotten:
'04 Tiger (MRA-Vario screen, Crash bars, K&N Airfilter, dual headlamp upgrade. Colour: orange, 'cause I'm Dutch, innit!)
    '93 ZZR600

It will be for tearing about on, might do some mileage but not much, but really dont want to go lower than 650. Ive had a few 1ltr sports bikes and like the grunt/torque, and know the 650 singles pack a punch or suppose to.

    Re: An opinion please....

    +1 on the DR650.

Rented one in NZ early last year, and they're a laugh. Good seat (important, that!), will happily keep at it all day as long as you stay off the motorway (not much of that in NZ anyway). Not as hardcore and/or powerful as an XR or KTM, but I see that as a plus.

If I can ever bring myself to replace my dear old knackered NX, this might very well be it.
