Re: Will Honda react to the Super Tenere ?

Honda need to build a bike that suits me

It needs to be a 650-800 V Twin, weighing 180kg, 25L tank, 21" front 18" rear with drain plugs in the Front Forks like the RD04. chain drive.

It needs to be in HRC Red,white and blue and do between 50-60mpg.

A bit like a skinny RD04 will do nicely

If Mr Honda wants to PM me for more details then Iam willing to discuss ot in more detail and show him some sketches

The big problem is that Honda sell millions of bikes worldwide and only about 125 of them are for the likes of us.

Hmm... would these sketches look anything like an RD03, because except for a few aspects, you've just described one...

That maybe what you want and me too, but unfortunately it's not what were going to get. Honda has had it's head firmly planted up it's corporate arse for the last 10 years while the other manufactures have stolen the adventure bike market and it's sat there and watched it happen, so don't hold your breath.

What we will get from Honda is something safe and equally boring.
A 265kg Behemoth Japaneese BMW GS wanna be with a 1200 V4 configured to run like a twin with more electronics than NASA use on the Shuttle. Lets hope it doesn't go bang as often. A 19" front wheel, shaft drive, dual linked power assisted brakes and a tank that wouldn't look out of place on a 125 if the new VFR is anything to go by. It will be the VFR with a beak just like the multistrada. Who will want one of these things when they're out of warranty, not me. And where will you get them repaired if you stray off the blackstuff and into areas where adventure biking gets to be really interesting.

So where do they go next. 1500cc perhaps. The "my dick is bigger.....thing" .Bigger is not necessarily better. The fireblade seems to be getting smaller so why this obsession with bigger and bigger tralie bikes with less and less off road ability.

I dream that honda will make an 800 @ style bike with a 21" front with really good off road abilities to stuff the 800 GS but I know it's time to wake up as its not going to happen.

It sticks in my guts to say this but BMW have it right.

So I'll guess i'll just keep my RD07 and RC36.

    Rant over

It's is quite surprising how no other manufacturers have reacted to the 800. I presume Honda are looking at it from the 'we've just spent 28 quid on designing a ubiquitous 700cc engine that will last ten years now we need a 1200 to complete the range'

Anyway the engine designer with all that out of date knowledge will need a long rest before starting the next project. Nice cup of tea and some sushi, bless...

Re: Will Honda react to the Super Tenere ?

It seems we all pretty much know what's needed...

A light 800 engine (preferably carbed), with a big tank, USD forks, 21" front wheel...

Why don't the more technically inclined of the XRV forum get together and build a "Frankenbike"?

I'll volunteer my services as a test rider

    JB
'07 KTM 990 Adventure (Crash Bars, Scottoilter, 16t front sprocket, Throttle Cam. Colour: Black & Grey)
    '93 DR800 BIG (Fully farkled!)

    Gone but not forgotten:
'04 Tiger (MRA-Vario screen, Crash bars, K&N Airfilter, dual headlamp upgrade. Colour: orange, 'cause I'm Dutch, innit!)
    '93 ZZR600

I'm on the Safe House List! Garage and minor toolkit available...

that would be an XLV 750R Rd tank is 21l and its shaft drive and about 15kg over weight

guess the only way you get what you want, is to make it

usually turbo charged and intercooled - aswell
often made by B&W and Sulzer,

that's B&W (Burmeister & Wain) easily confused with BMW - also manufacturers of heavy propulsion units

( bit of a givaway of my previous career)

Honda will most probably release a statement saying .

" We think we make enough bikes that are sought after and do not see it necessary to make anymore models."
