Re: Sons and girlfriends
A thread packed in equal measure with sound practical advice and "spit-my-coffee-over-my-monitor" one-liners....love it.
However, I suspect my parents must have thanked their lucky stars that I spent my teens (and some time after) utterly inept at chatting up the ladies....

Re: Sons and girlfriends
Ahhh that takes me back. Back when I were a small teenager I ran up a large bill on the landline to my girlfriend. This was mainly because mobiles hadn't been invented, phoneboxes were out of the question as I wasn't keen on the smell of wee or the sound of crunching glass underfoot.
My parents put a small lock onto the phone dial to keep me off of it. Hands up who remembers phones with dials! When they were out I used to pick the lock with a pair of stamp tweezers, use the phone, then put the lock back on.

Hmmm having spent much of my life chasing women and getting nowhere only to finally realise that the correct answer was to let them chase me.... Leads me to ask - how much is her phone bill ? Perhaps a Italian machismo chat is in order, if nothing else get her to come round and win over 'mamma'...

People often forget how much more, in straight money terms, expensive it was to use the phone in the seventies etc local calls were ten plus pence a minute. I remember when Dad first got a mobile it cost him over a pound a minute to call the house, in the eighties !! Now for my £45 a month I get 1700 minutes I can call anywhere inc 33 countries with plus texts and data and blah blah blah. I'm really really straining, I can't help it, sorry has to be said Youth of today etc etc...
