    My three, (L-R) Rottweiler, cross Jap Spitz, Mini Pinscher, none have papers, thus they were cheap. Wouldn't trade any of them for a pedigree or a geneology stretching back hundreds of years!

    Re: Should pedigrees be banned?

    I think banning pedigree's in probably a bit strong & unworkable, but I agree with your sentiments.

    We have;
    an 18yr old Jack Russell - barely a moments trouble but now blind/deaf & getting a few lumps & bumps....
    A 12 yr old mongrel (Rotty cross??) now with severe arthritis from being hit by a car at 5yrs, otherwise no probs.

    AND a 3 yr old (breeder sourced) Gt Dane.......

    Now, Don't get me started but this is the most inging feckin' creature to ever walk the earth, pees & craps everywhere & anywhere, obviously being a Dane it pees craps like a friggin' elephant.
    The hound from hell eats about £10 in cheap dog food a week, costs a fortune to insure (£40month.....) as it's a 'pedigree' & a big one at that, kennelling is also more expensive than a small dog and cost a fortune to buy in the first place.
    The 'thing' is brain dead & also has a weak back end.

    While also being a lazy, placid thing (doesn't even stand up to greet you on a morning or to have a crap...) it has spontaneously attacked a few small dogs (read; us stumping up their vets bills...).
    We dare not let anyone we know look after him.......

    Even Vanessa animal lover of all animal lovers finds him hard work.

    Realistically speaking, I think you are right: not really workable but, as I mooted in an earlier post, I really think the time has come to severely and critically review the practice of pedigree breeding.

    Our friends Dachshund will probably need surgery and if that fails, it's good night. And that breaks my heart because she's a lovely dog.

    Stupid as you like!...but lovely...
