    The Lost Weekend

Greatly saddened to discover that Road Racing has returned to the streets of West Cork, hurtlin' through the centre of Dunmanway, out into the country and around and back through again ...
Munster 100 | West Cork Motorcycle Club
Yes, greatly saddened that I won't be able to attend on the weekend of August 21st & 22nd, 2010.
Particularly saddened that I won't be there, enjoying the temperate West Cork air, the Murphy's, the chips and mayo, the West Cork roads, the craic ...
Ah well, maybe next year, please God(dess).

Yea but it usually includes church and GAA.....RR usually gets run on a Sat due to this reason only....and that's both sides of the fence too.

So is the main race day Sunday then?

    Pedantry & The Lost Weekend

Sunday, is indeed God's Own Race Day.
Um. I hope I'm not calling into question any sincerely held beliefs, here. But in my experience, the south western portion of The Republic has been taking part in many different forms of sporting activity, come The Sabbath Day, for as long as my short term memory can remember the Rebel County entering the Twentieth Century.
I have no experience of the fence you speak of.
True to say I've been away since 2008 ... but surely, the fundamentalists can't have taken that much advantage of my absence to make things as puritanically pious as you proclaim ?

    Re: The Lost Weekend

Always thought the rebel country would be more opposed to sport outside GAA than elsewhere....opp north..or Canada as it is to the Kerry men...we cant do closed roads on Sundays....mostly due to interupting too many different church going folks but suppose we do have a lot more variations than elsewhere.

Think the original Dundalk RR where on Sundays...far better for spectating as most can make a family day of it.

    Wink Re: The Lost Weekend

Never mind the church-goers & GAA, it's the image of a road race through the middle of some road bowling that tickles me! (They compete chucking an iron ball down the road village to village, and a crowd mills around all over the road watching, cheering and betting who can do it in fewest throws - a regular road hazard in West Cork).

Does it not depend on your religion, after all the Jewish religion worship on Saturday.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

After the racing is over, then there's time to get to Macroom to see Two Time Polka perform
