i m constantly surprised when i need parts, which isnt often i admit, (one reason why i went bigH in the first place) my main dealer selling OEM parts is often cheaper than part factors. especially if you factor in postage too.
Single On-line retailer (including Mail order from dealers)
Multiple on-line retailers (no one retailer stocks what you want)
Your local dealer / shop (you physically visit)
Multiple local shops / dealers ( no one dealer stocks what you want)
Other (please reply to the thread to explain)

All,
Just a thank you for participating in this poll.
I guess there are no surprises that 70% of you buy from on-line retailers and 30% go in to a shop or do something else.
Interesting stats that I can use on discussions with some on-line retailers that would like the opportunity to sponsor some forums here.
I'll keep the poll open as it's interesting to see if it shifts as we get more people completing it.
Cheers
Dave

Always silver spares followed by wemoto and lastly my local dealer for everything else. Halfrauds is s***te but good for cable ties and bulbs/oil in an emergency..just dont let the ham fisted little scroats on apprenticeships fit the bulbs to your bike.
I use a mix of online and local. Online you can often get the bits you want, Wemoto, David Silver, DirtBikeBits, and some more specialised bits. Intobikes is the only place I've found that will do a 14t TA 650 front sprocket for example. I support my local bikeshop when I can, the gent there will often work really hard to turn something round for when I need it.
I buy from a couple of recognised online stores - Wemoto, David Silver. I use ebay absolutely loads and dont care who supplies what I want or need as long as the price is good and the goods are what I need. I buy from Halfords and a local Motor Factor (mostly car parts) if I need something quickly, like mid job on the car, bike etc.
AT Service parts - Generally Wemoto or David Silver
2000 Black and Gold with MRA Screen, Motad Venon Exhaust + Custom Stainless Ankle Guard, Bagster Tank Cover, Dash Clock Cover + 12V, Facet Fuel Pump, Givi Crash Bars, Givi Pannier Rack (Modified for Stahlkoffers), Givi Top Box, Stahlkoffer Panniers, Pro. Mod. Seat, CR Footpegs, Michelin Anakee 2 Tyres, Sat Nav., Hel Stainless Brake Hoses, K&N, Headlamp Mesh - oh! yes. Huge Nut attached to Handle Bars
I,m an online person although I will if really really pushed buy from local shop, but due to such high prices I really have to need the part right there and then (if they have it in stock!!!!!).
Ebay is ok just got to watch P&P
CSMNL for part numbers and then I,ll usually use Lings.
Havnt used David Silver as of yet, but like what I,m hearing about the lower prices if you are prepared to wait for parts.
I,m on a budget so will always look out for a deal.
i used the £20 honda voucher to good effect at the weekend, got a £70 set of brake pads for, u guessed it, £50!
had to wait ages for them to have some in stock though, they have deliveries every day but the workshop keeps using the stock up!
I use the usual suspects for most things - Silvers/Wemoto mostly, but then I get my sprokets from the dealers along with its lock ring and odd bits that other folk dont have (alternator bolt cover for example - only the dealer could get it)
Then I use my Halfrauds discount card for oil/fliters and plugs or bulbs fuses etc........

Hi there
Living in Northern Ireland I'm not exactly spoilt for choice with local dealers...although I'll come back to that in a minute. I remember being spoilt for choice in the late '70s and 80s, when Belfast had 2 official Honda dealers - one with an excellent parts depatment - and separate dealers for the other main marques. Not much left now, I'm afraid.
For the last 8 years I've ridden Royal Enfield Bullets - the made in India variety. I had a small 'off' during the summer, which meant that I was in the market for new headlamp parts / footrest / gearchange lever etc. The main dealer in England could supply these online for about £250 (including VAT and hefty postage across the water) but - get this - a well known auction site gave me a choice of dealers in India, and I got what I needed delivered WITHIN A WEEK at less than half the UK dealer's price! I had previously sourced other routine spares (cables / filters etc.) from India at a fraction of the UK price, all with the proper manufacturers' stamps / labels (I sourced them where they are made, after all), so now I can deal direct with those suppliers rather than pay the auctioneer or importer a (small or large, respectively) percentage.
As for my recently acquired '03 650 'Alp, I have been scouting for sources thru this forum - so thanks guys for your advice. Good to hear that Dave Silver is still the 'go to guy' - I got some K1 Goldwing panels from him around 1990. I'll also have a look at Wemoto (never heard of them before). I am, however, a little embarrased that searching for an oil filter and brake pads for the 'Alp on the aforementioned auction site turned up a local 'bike bits' supplier...less than 2 miles from home...whom I didn't know existed - so maybe I'm not so badly off after all!
I'll order tyres online when I need them from whoever gives the best deal - once I decide which ones I want, of course (and yes, I know that tyres - and chain adjustment - are so contentious that they deserve a whole forum each!). I also have some friends in the South who time their visits up North to coincide with fitting new tyres...the savings aren't as much as they used to be (about half price at one stage), but still more than pay for a couple of hundred miles round trip, and gives us an excuse to have a blast (take that as an open offer...).
