    MP3 Recommendations

Hi all, I'm looking at getting an mp3 player for tunes on the move, I currently have a little 2gb sony which is good, but crave more memory (say 16gb) but have a small budget (not ipod size, so £75- £100 more the mark) I will only really use it on 2 wheels, so what are people using and how have they found it.
Don't want it too bulky but sound quality, batt life and screen (doesn't need to be big but want to be able to wok out my choices)
I've been on the review sites and no clear winner, and not sure about a lot of the new makes (if they are good or bad etc)
Not really my area (electronics) as prefer moving parts so all help appreciated.

Have a look at Archos, they make a model 202 / 204, these have 20 gb storage.

    Re: MP3 Recommendations

For the budget, something like a Sansa Clip+ or a Sansa Fuze may be a good bet. They're both available as 8Gb and are pretty cheap. Sound quality is excellent. The can also take MicroSD cards for additional memory although, like the Creative players, the card contents don't integrate cleanly with the main memory. The Fuze prices should be bargain basement as a new model, the Fuze+ is imminent and will also be available to 16Gb. That would be well worth a look too.

I got an 8Gb Sansa Clip ages ago and it's been great. The sound quality is superb and it has good reviews. I'd consider the Fuze+ but the Clip has got enough capacity to still be useful and is also cheap enough not to get paranoid about.

Personally I just use a mobile, most these days can be used for MP3 playback and also have card slots for 8+gb, no point in carrying two devices when just one will do

    So many to choose from.

16gb is the right size to go for. I've got an almost new 8gb iPod touch because I upgraded my phone to the 16gb iPhone and the size makes all the difference.

Sansa is a very good option with expandable memory which very few others offer. Basic screens but does what it says on the tin.

Apples new Nano is a craicin option at about £150 for 16gb or get the older (gen5) models as they are sold off cheap, about £120 for 16gb.

Sony offer some good units which are basically phones without the phone bits.

Biggest question is about library management. Have you got it sorted on PC already? If so your okay with any of these.

If not, will you want to manage it much in use, ie change what's on the iPod/player much. If you just load everything onto the player and rarely mess about then again any will do.

If you do look to manage your library then it's hard to beat iTunes unless your a big Windows fan.

If u want a phone, I've got an iPhone 3G going into Carphonewarehouse for sale this week. Should get about £140 for my 8GB model. Don't have to use the phone bit, just turn on the InFlight mode to turn off mobile signal. Was on O2 so it may work on a payasgo card, not so sure.

    Re: MP3 Recommendations

Cheers all, just the kind of stuff I was after.

A mate is letting me copy all his albums (or all those I like) that he has put on his PC and was thinking about just plonking them on an external hardrive (it's around 300 albums!!) and then I would just cherry pick those I like at any point.

At the moment I have to dump my 2gb every month or so and load on another 20 new ones, I was thinking bigger memory and my own stock then it would only need to be every few months and at my leisure.

Don't want to have to buy a new phone, altough new/ modern ones are mindblowing (metal detecting apps! whatever next) and I do like the idea of having something not too expensive so I don't have a nervous breakdown when I can't work out which pocket it's in (or or bounces on the floor)

How about one of these £82 for a 16 GB version with micro SD card slot.
