    The New Africa Twin!

Don't get excited, as far as I know Honda aren't bringing out a new @ next week or even next year as far as I know. However if they did what would you like it to be like? What would you like to stay the same and what improvements would you like to see on the new model. Perhaps we could collate all our views and send them to Honda!

Personally I'd like to see a comfy seat. A motorway munching sixth gear with a ratio like an overdrive. A mainstand, fitted as standard. Digital clocks, KTM style and better headlamps like the Varadero.

I'd like to keep it's rugged good looks and the lazy V-Twin motor, albeit maybe 150cc bigger with more power and torque, but not too sporty in nature.

Everything you said, but the KTM styling sucks IMO. Keep the styling as it is it has so much presence that even cars get out of the way when they see you coming!! Twin high level exhausts would be nice as well. An adjustable screen too. Maybe a smaller front wheel so that there's more choice in the tyre department. Remotely adjustable preload for the rear shock. I'm not asking for much am I

Don't fret. Mine's been like that since new. But it's still only mildly awful after four years and 100,000 miles. Even the seat is still firm........ouch

Wow, seems Honda DO listen to customer comments, they take comments like yours and make new bikes.

Think they call it a Varadero.

I'm glad Mr Honda is listening at last. The Varadero is the replacement for the @ is it Mr Honda. OK Mr Honda if your listening make it 25 kilo's lighter, with spoked wheels, give it a 21" front wheel, 8" more ground clearance and junk all the plastic and the pig ugly looks......er infact tell you what, junk all of it and just put the Varadero engine in an @ with a comfy seat. Then you might have a bike thats half way to being as good as the 1200GS or the KTM950. Because eventually all the @'s will be gone and I for one, won't be parting with my cash for the offering Honda has at present.

I've had two beemers, 650gs and 100gs. I had horrendous problems with the 650 cutting out and leaving me stranded in the middle of nowhere or lane three of the M25 but, that's another story. I vowed never to have to have another but, as you say, five years down the line what choice will we have. KTM or Beemer?

Brief for a new AT in no particular order...

    1. Cut the dry weight by at least 50lbs and preferably a lot more.
    2. A seat that lets you and a pillion to ride the range of the tank in comfort
    3. 30+ litre fuel tank
    4. Aircooled
    5. Owner/rider maintenance friendly (oh yeah!) - there used to be a bike marque called Wooler that you could strip down to component parts with just two spanners!
