Sorry, but we had one, although he had to end his political career when it got public that he also made porno flicks.

Sure, we might have a bit left before we play in the same legion as Italy, or France for that matter, but have faith, Swedish politicians are not far behind, and they anticipate to be on pair with the best of them within a few years.

Diane Abbott should be detested for all sorts of reasons (the two-facedness of sending her son to public school would be a good one), but probably not this.

If every time a stupid person put their ignorance on display we got all upset this forum would have closed down years ago.

I was at a conference years ago with her bleating on about how the BBC was racist and that was why she had never really made it as a journalist there. To everyone's amazement this BBC chap stood up, apologised for having to do this, and explained that he had worked with her at the BBC and the reason she had not got on was that she wasn't very good at her job. And he sat down. And the conference organisers had to break the silence with a bit of loud coughing and try to move on.

She's just acts a little bit faster than her brain can engage.

But who can say, with hand on heart, they haven't ever done that?

Personal opion on "When's a racist not a racist" hard to define but you can say good things about all races and extremely bad things about all races and you are not racist as your opion is consistant and doesn't discriminate against anyone. You only become a racist when you discriminate against 1 section of people or religion.

Personaly i'm not someone who's worried about it. People will say things to me and i will say things back to them if they offend me they will get offended back if they want to tell tales let them carry on. Sometimes it's really funny in work having racist banter between races (we have 800 people and god knows how many races at work) as nobody takes it personally or cares about. Normally it's only people with a chip on there shoulder that make an issue or drama out of it and they're not normally the ones it's aimed at anyway just interferring busy bodies

I've just seen the ITV news and Diane Abotts comments were on that, lets be honest the comments are nothing to get get excited or bothered about and nobody will take much notice of it and in a few days time it will all be forgotten.
For me it's good to see somebody other than a working class, British, white person having to justify comments of racism, maybe this could be the turning point for all those who wish to claim racism for what ever reason they fancy at the time

I wholeheartedly agree that the comment isn't exactly shocking as far as racist remarks go. It just makes her look like a hypocrite - even more than she did before.

The issue here really is the position of the person who has made the comment. It's a bit of a concern that a shadow cabinet MP who stood for the Labour leadership is stupid enough to publicly tweet a remark that is unarguably racist and then compound the error by first playing the "it's out of context" card (when it clearly wasn't) closely followed by the standard "weasel-worded pseudo-apology" card.

Yes, I just noticed. It has happened on several occasions that the text appears twice. I have no clue as to why this happens.
It started a week ago.
