    MotoExpo

A bit late in posting this, had a busy week. Anyway, last weekend my pal Chris and I went to check out the MotoExpo (Trade Exhibition) at the NEC. We had also gone last year, and it seemed better organised this year with more exhibitors. Had a good look round. The most noticeable trend was the number of exhibitors demonstrating electric bikes. My impression was that these are going to really take off as commuters. Some interesting questions arise - what are the legalities around riding these on the road? Do you need a licence? What if they are ridden on the pavement or cycle path? They are not really motorcycle or push bike or mobility scooter. They had versions mimicking all kinds of m/c including scooters, off roaders, quads, sports bikes etc. No Africa Twins or Transalps, though. They'd set out a 'playground' with cones and all the kids were taking turns - and pretty good they were too, u-turns and all! But what really caught our eyes was this brand new Ural - just right for an outing in the countryside complete with picnic hamper.

our bobsta had a go on the oset electric trials bike , the large adult sized one , he loved it

only thing you could hear as he rode it was the chain going round !!!!

basically , if its got pedals , and dont go over 14 mph , its an electric bicycle , so you can ride it on the roaqd with no tax , no plate , no helmet etc etc

if it has no pedals , its a motorbike , so it needs to be redgistered , taxed and insured , and you need to wear a helmet
