    Achill-henge

The BBC has just told me about Achill-henge.

This Irish Times image makes it look quite a sight.
What do youse still in Ireland think of it, should it stay, or should it go ?

I think it should stay. I'm by no means an arty liberal type but I think its very apt as a monument to what happened to the country over the last few years. It was built by a man who has personally been involved in the property boom and crash. It's big ugly and brash and what's more it's mad of concrete, what better a representation of the boom than that. It's more real as a piece of art than some commissioned piece of contrived crap. Isn't that what art is meant to be. Let it stand as it is and let it blend into the countryside. It'll be a good spot to have a pic taken with your bike in the future.

I wonder if there was similar discussions when Stonehenge was built???

Although I don't supose the Druids had too much trouble with the planning department.

Let it stay and make use of it as a monument

Thank you for your broadminded insight! You may be right, it may become an artistic, lichen-covered reminder of excess, even a warning to future generations. But it won't ever look like Athens or Stonehenge.

To put it more provocatively, is rape justified if it is labelled art!?

    It's not a mid-life crisis....I dunno what it is.....
