Horizons Unlimited Meet Lumb Farm Ripley 2012

Morning All (of course that depends on when you read this)
I thought I'd give this a mention for anyone who is thinking of heading up to Lumb Farm Ripley for the HU Meet this year between the 5th and 8th of July. The last discounted booking rate finishes at the end of Feb!Just go to the Ripley Meet page There's lots of new stuff going on - some of which will surprise. But there are quite a few favourites too. Austin Vince for one will be with us again. And, if anyone would like to give a hand with things, it'd be brilliant to have your as a volunteer. It's actually kind of fun - lots of new friends made. None of the jobs are grim but they all make a huge difference re the Meet ticking along with everyone happy, and you'd only need to do a few hours. Can you click on the volunteer link when you register please. I help with this bit of the Meet and last year we had over a hundred people doing mostly a couple of 2 hour stints. Brilliant!
And finally..... Fancy a go at presenting? If you have a great story to tell, or some tech knowledge that other overlanders would like to know about, please zap that link. Good to have the chance to share - oh and presenters don't pay the registration fee... Only right and proper eh.
    Cheers,Sam

Seriously thinking of going, may take my son so will be with the car. He's 10 and the good lady does not like the thought of him in on the back of the bike plus he is a bit of a space cadet he would try to jump off for an experiment ....

    I'll let you know later

Checking my diary Sam, already booked for British Superbikes that weekend, BUT might be able to visit/assist on Thursday - Friday.
Will confirm nearer the date if that's ok

We have been quite a few times before, the facilities are fab (extra portaloos are brought in for Horizons), on site pub with good food & function rooms, Marehay is walking distance (20 mins?) or a couple of minute ride to shops supermarket etc.

Set outside the beautiful bits of Derbyshire, initial impression on arrival is a bit 'uggh' although much work has been done recently to improve the camping area.
Lacks the 'set in a beautiful location' otherwise ideal.

Hi Alba, great re bringing your son and by car, no worries. people often bring children and they all seem to really enjoy the weekend. A couple of things though. There is a parking fee for cars or you can drop off your kit and park outside the farm. The fee goes to Motorcycle Outreach - they are a charity that HU support - a very worthy cause! I need to mention that though kids are very welcome and its a great event for them, though it is aimed at adults so you'll be taking responsibility re presentations. Many of them have adult content - there's a bunch of stuff on this on the booking page.

As for the venue being suitable for XRV events. Gosh yes. Its a great spot and I agree totally with Phil's comments. There are some changes happening at the moment re facilities but anyone going this year will see what those are. Angela and Vinnie, the owners, by the way, are great to work with.

There are plenty of really interesting rides to do in the area. This year we are hoping that the local TRF are going to lead some ride outs. Who better to know the best routes!

Stubbisie. Hope you can make it for some of the time at least. There will be plenty of people there on the Thursday and some presentations will be rolling in the evening. Things close down around lunchtime on the Sunday - leastways, that's when most people head off home.

Better scoot. Hope you guys can make it.
    Cheers,
    Sam

I was starting to think it would not be suitable, I would be wanting to attend the presentation he would be wanting to run about like loonie. still more than likely head down.

Gotcha - great site for him to run around too. But what to do with him while you are in the presentations is an issue. Bummer. Can you get someone to look after him while you scoot on up?
