Keep an eye on those mirrors folks

I was out with my son near St Andrews today when we came across a bit of a traffic jam. When filtered to the front and we got to the source of the holdup we saw it was an accident involving a motorcycle. It seems a car had rear ended a bike when the rider had slowed to allow the car in front of her to turn left. The young girl in the car immediately behind the bike failed to stop in time and sent the rider flying.

Fortunately no one was seriously hurt and just as we stopped the ambulance arrived and the injured girl was taken inside. But rather oddly one of the first things asked was if I was the riders husband. No says I and why? Well it seemed they were riding together and despite the accident happening long enough ago for the ambulance to arrive he still hadn't showed up.

Even when we left about five mins later he still hadn't appeared.

So as the subject says make sure you keep and eye on those behind you. This time she was lucky but she could so easily have been lying out of sight and that could have been a much different story.

Didn't Sharribee avoid an incident a while back because she checked her mirrors at an opportune moment?

It's not a case of whether we can fix it or not - it's more a case of how fixed would you like it?

Yup on the motorway a little while ago, very scary and very lucky.

Traffic had slowed, I checked mirror and saw a car clearly not slowing so filtered between cars. The car hit the car that had been in front of me.

    I'm paranoid about mirror checks

My thinking is that Hubby is going to be in real trouble when he finally realises his wife has been missing for several miles.

checking the mirror saved my day about a week ago. Wasnt on my bike, but had the 02 Trannie on the trailer behind me. And while I checked the mirror I saw one of the straps to hold her down rip. Luckily I saw it cause that particular strap was almost out of view. I would have noticed when I lost the bike and that would have caused a major accident.
Advise: even if you go to a professional to lend yourself a trailer and straps, check everything very carefully. The straps were pretty much ancient. I went to the next gas station and got myself brand new ones and exchanged everything.

As for not checking on your mates. That happened during the Elefant meeting in Poland. some of the boys made an offroad trip and one of the guys had electric problems as the cables on the battery losened from the last offroad rattle. They noticed miles later and of course didnt find him anymore. I dont even want to think what would have been if that guy had had a real fall off instead of just electric problems.

At the National last year, I was Sweeper (Tail End Charlie) for a ride. The bike in front of me had a spill, but no-one else in the group noticed; they rode off into the distance. We were able to help the rider get the bike out of the ditch, dusted him down and eventually got on our way. Near the top of the hill someone had finally decided to come looking for us. If the faller had been at the back, he'd have been down and out for ages.

As Boris says, keep an eye on the rider behind you, folks.
