    and then came the wind....

Lovely sunny day today, went out for a wee spin.

Unfortunately I forgot about the sail like qualities of the @ in high winds.

    Sigh....

At least I got back onto my side of the road before the bus came round the corner.

That will be Autumn barging her way into the year then!

ahhhh...dont u just love when it's blowing with a force of hurricane and soon as u adjust your position to ride in straight line it's hitting u from the other side...i stopped counting how many times i almost ended up under wheels of a bus or truck, i remember once it was blowing so bad, i leaned as far as i could and pushing pegs and bars and it was still pushing me onto 18 wheeler, luckly driver saw whats going on and hit the brakes...i learned to stay relaxed no matter how bad the weather is, lean a bit more forward, light grip on bars, balls of your feet rather than heels, it helps but most important is state of your mind, talk to yourself, sing, laugh, thats my 'silver bullet' for a really bad weather and 300 miles to go.

On our way back up through Northern France last year the wind was blowing at gale force for the last two days of our trip. With Mrs Laughing on the back, fully loaded TT panniers and an Ortlieb bag stuffed full of camping gear the bike was a bit of a handful to say the least. By the end of the second day I was severely knackered and vowed never to pack so much stuff again. Time is a great healer though, took twice as much stuff this year!!

If it's really bad and you really think the wind is going to push you off the road, try laying down over the tank (like a teenager on a moped trying to get every last mph out of his bike). You will feel like a complete **** but it's saved my bacon many a time in gales force winds.

When passing HGVs on the motorway you get a violent swipe from the wind as you pass the front of the cab (pushes you away and towards the central reservation). Again, crouch as above and give it a little bit of acceleration just before you clear the cab and lose it's protection. Honestly this really works.

Those darn things. It's always blowing a gale when I go over the Fords flyover on the A13. Those just remind you how windy it is there.

I always find sitting further forward on the seat helps stabilise the front end a little bit..
