    Update

    Just a general update.....

I got my AT back after having the gear selector rod replaced, and I'm in love again. I just love my AT. Interesting that I had a chance to fall in love with the loan bike I had, but I couldn't wait to get rid of it.
As its been pissing down I've not gone for a ride, I've just been out in the garage running the engine to hear the sound.... ahhh lovely.

I've been in coding mode again at the moment, and have been looking at the picture facility.
I've had a quick dabble with flickr which some of you will know. I don't think its going to be useful for us, so I've gone back to looking at what I can do with what we've got.
I've now on the way to mastering image manipulation in PHP and am in the process of building a picture upload page that will not only resize your pic for you but also compress it to required size and make a thumbnail of it. It will also handle mutliple image uploads at the same time.
For the more technical amongst you I'm also ditching storing the images in the MySQL database and storing them in a folder now. Seems like a good idea anyway!
Plenty to be done there will update you when the new facility is available.

Dave good to hear your bike is back in action. It's weird how we sometimes want something a bit more funky and the moment your trusty steed is gone you think what have I done

Indeed I've ridden a lot of loan bikes whilst having the AT and I wouldn't swap one of them for the AT.

    From memory:

    Varadero, Bandit, TL1000S, GSXR750, ZX6-R, Firestorm, CBR600 .......

Dave, nice to know the pic's may be automated; I'm having a bitch of a time getting mine below 50 K without the clarity going out of the window.

    Regards

Indeed that's one of the major benefits of me automating it. Not sure how well it will do it though!

In the interim send them to admin@xrv.org.uk and I'll sort them for you.

If you use Photoshop software it will let you reduce it easily but not ruin the quality.

you can also use Irfan view. Free and easy to operate.

Glad to hear the bike's better Dave, I'm looking forward to hearing mine again on Wednesday.

As far as pictures go, is xrv.org.uk limited at all? Personally I'd love to see some big 1600x1200 plus 2Mb pictures available. I know that not everyone has ADSL, but using something like http://gallery.menalto.com/ should enable multiple image sizes to be downloaded.

I use gallery myself, it does the re-sizing and thumbnail thing too, plus it has rss which is a cool idea for a gallery.

Fireworks is OK for resizing too, and you can view what you're doing in real time, so you can adjust the quality to suit the file size and acceptability. Generally try to keep pics around 40Kb. Didn't know Irfan was so comprehensive - used to use it a few years back.
