    Helmets

Well all you finbar saunders can stop that giggling straight away.

Just wondering if anyone had a two penny worth to add about which helmet they would recommend, and any web links to cheaper helmets.

Personally am looking to replace the knackered shoei raid that got dropped over the weekend smashing the visor fitting. Playing russian roulette with the visor on the motorway is going to increase my dry cleaning bill eventually. Besides is christmas so I can get myself a present .

I've been wearing a Shoei XR1000 for two years now, it's easily the best thing I've put on my noggin. Pre-fitted with a pinlock double glazing thing that really works, I think they're about £200 for the palin colours. I know it's not relevant now but the vents are fantastic, you can actually tell whether they are open or closed!

I love it, and would recommend it to anyone.

On another note, HJC are due to release a competitor to the Arai XD (see Long Way Round) for about £100 in the new year, if you're a Ewan/Charlie wannabee, but skint!!

    Cheers
    -Simon

Dont bother with a Roof Boxer.

They look cool, but are big old ladies pants in reality.

Very very noisy, utterly dreadfully dangerous in the wet, steam up in 1/2 second in the cold, no vents for the summer.

But did I mention they look cool?!

I took one on my trip this summer and whilst the fact that I could go "open face" when I was having a "C.H.I.P.S" moment was great and refreshing, I'd have rather have had a helmet that I didn't have to struggle to hear my mate on the radio and wasn't damaging my hearing!

    Nuff said.

To be honest was thinking about a raid II to replace my older model.

Am interested by the pinlock system
    a) as it reduces fogging and
    b) you can put in a silly coloured insert (ie darker) and I understand that its doesnt make you illegal as its the insert not the visor.

This is very important for me as I head due east in the morning to work and due west in the evening to get back to my pipe and slippers or pint and pie depending on the day of week.

October was a tricky month with me riding blind both ways due to sunlight.

Have been using a fogcity sticker thing which worked mightily well but appears to have some sort of shelf life as its getting worse with age.

Not sure why this topic was locked..... probably a mistake. Unlocked now though.

    Anyway on to err helmets.
I recommend the Arai Quantum F or whatever the latest one is.
I've had the Quantum's now for the last 5 or 6 years ago and have been very pleased with the fit and the longevity.
I err use my helmet every day so how long it lasts is very important. The £100 one's just seemed to disintegrate after a year.

I have a Roof 010 and I find it exceptionally mist-resistant, especially compared to my long series of Shoeis that came before.

But best of all, it is so quiet, hardly any wind noise at any speed (though I hardly ever exceed 90).

Love my Tour X though it does mist up a little sometimes. The fit is superb, definately the most comfortable helmet I had. LB.

funny that! i have 3 arais including a tour -x . arais are brilliant, had shoei, fm, axo daineese, etc but the tour- x, for misting up is the worst helmet i have ever owned. i've removed the visor and now use it with goggles for green laning!

Well if your interested I managed to get myself a snazzy new shoei x-spirit.

Not especially as I got 130 quid off, with out having to wait for an internet delivery. Nothing like immediate gratification to put me in the christmas spirit
