sale on at Hein Gericke - Tuareg jacket

I decided I needed a new lighter and cooler and waterproof and warm jacket for my trip to Morocco. So after a quick peruse of the Internet I landed on the HG web site and..................... they have got a sale on Brill, the Tuareg Gti GTx something was in the sale with £100 off. Looks perfect and with a name like that obviously a must have for Morocco. So off I toddled to Preston to try one on.

Big disappointment - none left, so after putting on my best long face they eventually produced an XL one from the back that had been returned for repair. I must say I absolutely hated it - its the removeable lining thing that makes the jacket tight, a pain to put on and off, and it was too low at the neck to be considered a decent waterproof, so despite desperatly wanting to "save" £100 I walked away.

Bought a Xena disk lock instead (not in the sale),

I went up the road and tried a Rev'it Cayenne but again the removeable lining things are awful. So I will use my (heavy and hot and not waterproof) leather jacket and the Aldi special waterproof jacket for Morocco.

Unhappy Re: sale on at Hein Gericke - Tuareg jacket

im after a replacement for my ageing and no longer watertight voyager, so i went down to my local HG, portsmouth, yesterday for a look. (i got the email about the sale too) i was also dissappointed, not so much they didnt have a XXL for me to try, for once they did!
i was dissappointed because after trying on several jackets including the tuareg, i can see that hein gericke have gone a long way downhill. they used to be top quality, so you didnt mind paying £400 for a suit, you knew it would last. the linings they use now will tear in a matter of days, theres too much velcro that doesnt last years like a pop stud, some of the jackets are only waterproof with the thermal liner zipped in, so it cant be wet AND warm or you will boil, ridiculous.
also i have two older jackets that are XXL but the new stuff's sizing is all over the place, sometimes i had to go up to XXX and then some jackets are in 56/58/60 sizes, whats that all about?

import tax on aerostitch stuff is looking like a better deal all the time

I'm a big fan of HG , I've got a gore voyager suit at the moment.

However I agree totally with your remarks on the rally style jackets with the removable waterproof liner - I never understood that design and it's common to ALL rally suits of having the "waterproof" layer inside everything else !! that must mean the whole jacket get absolutely saturated and heavy and cold and "drippy" ???????
    2011 Triumph Tiger 800 - "Black Pussy" - MMMM Nice !!!
    2000 Suzuki DRZ400S - "Ol' Yella" - very bright
    2011 Peugeot V-Clic 50cc - "Scoot" - It's my wife's, an enjoyable ride.

    I have a house , but I can't guarantee it's safe !!

I agree with both of you. I have a couple of HG items that I like - leather trousers and some boots. But the jackets......

    Sleeves too short
I don't get the goretex inside everything idea - like Jack says means everything is wet, heavy and yuck and in the winter must be making you colder and colder.
Only waterproof with the warm liner in. Hmm, I am usually hot and sweaty enough in the summer as it is.
The velcro thing - hate the stuff.
two tiny fiddly zips and about 10 fiddly inaccessible poppers to remove/refit the liner. Try doing that with cold wet hands and a jacket that weighs a ton.
    there's more too......
