    Waterproof my @r5e

    Beginning of Rant:

I am on my third pair of boots in three years that have all leaked.
    1. Cheapy £40 pair from Busters - leaked like a sieve first time out in pouring rain for long drive.
    2. Hein Gericke pair £110 - leaked after 1 year on being out in the rain for 3 hours. did work at one stage.
    4. Alpinestars (GP I think - the ones with the annoying insoles that went in the bin) - I got these as a lot of people seemed to recommend them as being actually waterproof - worked for a year, now letting in a bit after 2 hours in showers.

Does anyone have any boots that have never leaked after being in heavy rain for a couple of hours, or going through the odd puddle etc?

Has anyone used anything - sprays or coatings that can restore waterproof layer?

    thanks in advance

    Rant over

Raplie I know exactly what you mean.... it really really pi$$es me off.
I had pairs and pairs of the Frank Thomas Aqua Pore boots and they were total crap, they always leaked.
I then bought a pair of Hein Gericke Goretex boots, I've had them about 4 years and they have never ever ever leaked at all. I don't know whether I'm just lucky though. I would buy a pair again.
    Forum help and advice needed?

I've got a pair of goretex Daytonas that have been my primary footwear for about 4 years (say 50k miles total, year round), they're a bit ratty looking by now but still waterproof last time I tried them... (Warning: they're Not Cheap though.)

Anything with goretex will be water proof and if it does not stay waterproof for 5 years you will get your money back provided they have not been abused. NEVER EVER use boot polish on a leather boot with goretex (or any micropore) liner- it will destroy it. Use the Nixwax stuff especially made for goretex , comes in black and clear - Aqueous Wax.

Oxtar all the way for me n her. Both have toasty dry feet. Tough boots. Not cheap but after 3 years cheaper than 3 cheap pairs!
