    Pc problems

How about a forum to help people with PC problems whether it be software, hardware or driver based problems. Lots of us have these niggles and find ways to solve the problems, why not share these solutions with other people who may be suffering the same way.

Lets be honest we all need a PC/ laptop to access this forum

Personal opinion on this - I think that's too far off-topic even for here

There are so many possible PC issues and so many possible solutions that the best option is usually to Google for an answer.

If your PC was broken then it would not be able to access the internet so it would be a waste.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE

does that mean all PC help websites are a waste

Posting to a dedicated PC help website would get you better answers, although I just ring ring my mate and say it's knackered again and he pops up like the store keeper in Mr Ben

    Re: Pc problems

It's something we've actually considered and other bike forums have done, however the feedback we get is that people think there are too many forums as it is on the site and want a smaller amount, so we haven't progressed with it.

I have no problem with you discussing PC issues in the Chatter forum though and if they are related to the forum in some way, in the "Problems" forum.

Simple answer PC in warranty take it back to where it came from, PC out of warranty 1st step, buy or find in toolbox rubber mallet, step 2 gently hit pc with aforementioned mallet, still not working (oh at this stage check you do not have a power cut, lack of electricity does not seem to help if your lights and microwave etc are not working also it is a fair chance there is no electricity)stage 3 hit harder with mallet, still no go, find heavier mallet I:E 14lb sledge hammer mash pc completely so no forriner can extract your credit card details list of unsavoury websites you have visited etc Ah la GG and put it our for recycling /dustcart, take trip too pc world buy new pc, problems are just begining again for ya

That would really depend on what the problem was, just coz your pc is broken does not in any way mean you can't access the internet. It could be a sound driver issue, screen resolution issue, usb plug ins etc, any number of things that would still allow internet access to get help. Even if internet access is the problem on yor pc then many people have laptops also that they can use to access the internet to get help.

I personally think it might be a bit off-topic for a trail bike forum and any pc problems can be posted in the chatter forums like they have before and we can help as best we can, i just don't think this site needs a dedicated pc section for the small amount of pc problems there is here.

I don't think it's worth its own section here. However if people want to post in Chatter or PM me I'd be happy to lend any assistance I can.

After 15+ years in electronics, PC/peripheral component level repair and then 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th line IT support I personally think that people should stick to Merv's idea!!!

Regarding Merv's point about trace (yes lets all tell him looking at those sites will make you:

    a) SKINT

    b) BLIND !! (but will he listen ???)

I personally CAN RECC (esp when you are using "public PC" at work etc) a few free programmes to deal with this issue:

CC Cleaner (Orig stood for "Crap Cleaner" !)

MRU Blaster (cleans Most Recently Used trails)

    System Wiper

Easily available -some at site called "Snapfiles" (very useful for those that havent fnd this site - all progs user rated etc

And REST ASSURED - i have been running the above progs for years & all VERY SAFE / WELL TESTED (By Me !! )

So - on a PC level, maybe just members recc's like the above of "useful things" would be the point where we stop ! ????
