I can see peoples point of view, but the review section does seem disappointingly sparse and I get the feeling (myself included) that people tend to post about things they have generally been impressed with.
A bad experience/ purchase is often brushed under the proverbial carpet (or out of the garage with the leaves) and some of the gambles (that is the bumf and price look too good to be missed) I've succumb to, I'd fear fierce berating for lack of common sense.

As someone who doesn't legally own a motorbike that they can buy nice things for......................
The underlined section of your quote caught my eye.
Could this fact be as a result of motorcycle accessory and product manufacturers starting to realise that unless they sell a good product, their names will be plastered in lights on all the bike forums known to man. It has been said time and time again on Xrv.org that if you buy cheap you buy twice and yes some products costing more can lead to disappointment but those products are becoming fewer and fewer. Industries watch and listen very carefully to the input on pages such as these and act swiftly to corner a market when there is a call for a new product or a modified one to suit rider and bike better. Perhaps an email to the company concerned, stating your disappointment of a certain product may just serve as the wake up call it needed. All to often companies become complacent and think as is well in consumer land and continue to churn out the same old product year after year without the slightest regard to the effectiveness or the end users.

Good point, well made.
I doubt I'd have enough time to go through all my Cr*p and start writing to all concerned, maybe I need to start from now.
Maybe a variation could be along the lines of 'the best £5 I've every spent on my bike' catering for all budgets
