    Member Map

Just an idea, and not my own (unless I'm losing it more that I know) how about a map of the UK (or further a field) where (if they want) members can put a little mark or link or whatever where they live, might be interesting too see who is around your neck of the woods you didn't know about.
Thinking along the lines of the old Blue Peter bring and buy sales from yesteryear
I know their might be a whole load of reasons why not, but I'd be happy to plonk my flag just off Jtn 28!

    Re: Member Map

We used to have one. I think it got binned when the site software was updated, as it was no longer compatible. Don't believe a suitable alternative was available?

One of the mods will probably be able to confirm or clarify this.

I agree and would like to see it back again , ibrought it up a while ago and too many people said they didn't want it too happen for one reason or another and since then it hasn't made a return yet

If some people don't agree with it, then they should not put a flag of their location. It should be optional with a setting in profile where the user can select "show location on map"

    Re: Member Map

this would be a good idea

also making it optional would be the way forward, along with no exact address but say just the area near to you, or nearest land mark, shopping centre, that kind of thing.

As i am sure people dont want to advertise thier home with X amounts of motorbikes!!!

    Re: Member Map

Can I suggest that members read this thread
Members maps - Do we want one?

And also be aware of the fact that the original Phoogle plugin that XRV ran is currently not compatible with the current vB version. If though you do come up with a vB plugin that is compatible (and also likely to be compatible with v4 when we eventually migrate over then then the admins will seriously consider it.

    Re: Member Map

    Thanks Kymmy.

I knew there was a good reason why it isn't a current feature.

If members want to know who is in your region / let others know what region you are in - could a stickied thread be added to regional meets area that we could add forum name and a vague location to?

    ie Micksylver in Chesterfield

Might not have the same visual impact as a map, but could still be useful. Totally optional too, if you don't want your details on - don't post.

    Re: Member Map

I love the idea of a site related map, showing members approximate locations and maybe National meet locations.

I'd particularly like to see a worldwide Google style map, showing locations of our far-flung members, and maybe International Club Meets.

I'll actively push for this, but it'll be upto the real techy heads to make it work.

Problem there is that as people post it would all get mixed up, also there is already a members location feature on everyones profile for those that want to fill it in. If you go to the memberslist you can do an advanced search for someone in a particular location
