Re: Hafren Rally Sun 7th Oct

mudwiz how 'variable' are these guys on what actually constitutes the spec of the bike?.. I'm looking to give the xtz a run out (think this event may be a tad too early though as i've lost 2 weeks in the workshop). never done an enduro and from the regs its possible that the xtz may fall in the modified mx category which looks to be banned????

is there an official scruteneer from the ACU who i can get the bike too and get it log booked (or blue booked) so that there is no argument in the future?

Re: Hafren Rally Sun 7th Oct

Jenna, I've read through your XTZ thread again to be sure, but what you've got is a modified XTZ, which I asume is a Yam big trail bike? And a twin to boot. The modifications you're doing are either custom rally/raid stuff, or from enduro bikes, so at worst it will be in the Sports class. By comparison, the HP2 classifies as a Trail bike, as do modified KTM 640 Adv.s. At the Ryedale I'm sure a full on Dakar bike was used, maybe with some adjustment to silencers.

To check, I'd email Marianne or Kate Jones.

I'll check the dakar bike thing, and find Mariannes email address.

Re: Hafren Rally Sun 7th Oct

large part of the bits are actually WR450 (MX and not enduro), although the frame and engine are still 'original(ish )', and i assume that the acu is like the DVLA and uses the frame and engine to determine the bikes origin?.. if thats right then i think its legal in m3?.... but.....had a hunt through the ACU website but it doesn't really give much detail on the regs, which then means if its run like the MSA the regs are up for interpretation by each scrutineer at each event!..that could prove a nightmare!

just wondered if there was a system like for FIA events where you get a blue book which is like a sporting logbook for the car, its checked by the top scruteneer in your area and signed off if it passes. When you have this piece of paper the car is effectively guaranteed to be accepted into the class its been checked for regardless of the events location or organisation... just makes life a bit more easy.

Re: Hafren Rally Sun 7th Oct

You could always blag a WR as an enduro, is not a YZ!!

Steve Hague was the rider I was thinking of,
still can't find Marianne's email.

As far as I know, the scrutineering is much less intense than a full enduro, noise by ear, unless its loud, spokes, wheel bearings, head race etc.
They even provide numbers!!

lol yep steve did the dakar back in '99 and then again in '04 on his 660 which he still uses for enduros... last i herd he was 'up north' with chris evens ( the UK dakar rep).

ok sounds like not to much hassel, shame its not being run back in november again as that would be easier for us... whats the next similar event the bike is ok to run in??

Re: Hafren Rally Sun 7th Oct

Apart from the Cambrian, a couple of weeks later, I don't think there are any more big events this year. The LDT probably won't be your cup of tea.

How about a multi-lap enduro? The CHEC event due to happen in Leighton Buzzard in Nov. would be a good one, if it happens. The course will be passable with little in the way of deep ruts to ground out in, some fast mx bits and tight woods. Transalp got round with only a couple of pulls!!

The events are pretty cheap, local to you, and don't really mind strange machines. The c90 racers used lane end last time, and TBM have put HP2 and 950 super enduro round some of their courses.

Re: Hafren Rally Sun 7th Oct

Well, I've got a partial victory for getting to this one, work have OK'd the seperate transport thing, but insist its a car! That means trailer, which means no Transalp. So that means TTR, so this rally is going to be fully in wimp mode, little bike, trailer, spare clothes, wow! Its going to be a right laugh!!

Any way, some (newer) TTRs did really well on the Ryedale, so it could be an eyeopener of an event. Is a little bike really faster/easier than a big one? Especially on an event with lots of flat fire roady going, that favours some power!

We shall see...

Now, who else is coming out to play in the forests?
