    Re: Erzberg Rodeo - 23rd - 25th May 2008

Can anyone confirm the day and date of the Konigdclasse (sp??) race. It has been on the Thursday in previous years, that would be the 22nd. It appears to be on the Friday next year (200, the 23rd.

The Thurs would be hard to sort, the Friday would be wonderful!!

    Thanks all, .

    Re: Erzberg Rodeo - 23rd - 25th May 2008

OK - just had a long chat with Breeze............

For 2008 the specific dates for the Konigsklasse has not yet been released but working from last year this is the format:
    • Arrive on the Wednesday and pitch up with the XRV International Team
    • Thursday - 1.30pm Konigsklasse Race 1 (Twins)
    • Thursday - 3.30pm Konigsklasse Race 2 (Twins)
    • Friday - 9.00am-5.00pm Prologue Open Class Race 1 (All)
    • Saturday - 9.00am-5pm Prologue Open Class Race 2 (All)
    • Depart Sunday
The fees for racing both of the Konigsklasse Races is €45

The fees for racing both of the Prologue Open Races is €75

    Now the IMPORTANT BIT:
You can race the Konigsklasse with a stock Africa Twin with TKC80s - and as long as you remember it is a race and make steady progress up the course - you are capable of taking part. (You can be as competitive as much or little as you like - you are only competing against your fellow @ riders as we're never going to win any silverware in this event). As for experience, Breeze is well aware of Annette's capabilities and said she won't have any problems - just go steady, at your own pace, and let faster riders pass you (there's plenty of room).

Quote from the Official Erzberg Rodeo website
The routeis conducted across a 13km long track of broken rock without obstacles to the finish at the summit, which is situated 700m higher than the start (also manageable with short spring travels and road tyres).

If you don't feel that you want to race - then just come along and join the party - that way there's no pressure - even if you have entered and got your Race Number thenchange your mind once you get there

Annette & I are definitely going to do this (Konigsklasse Races) - should be a 'once in a lifetime' experience. We are going mainly for the social side of meeting as many @ riders from Europe as possible, some 'Big Name' dirt riders, and joining in the celebrations of the Africa Twins 20th Anniversary.

We are planning on hiring/borrowing a van to take our @s over as I don't want to have to race with pannier racks etc so all our kit can live in the van and we can sleep in it as well. If we do this, we may be able to take some kit for you.

There is camping at the actual venue, with places to eat and drink. The @ team all camp together.....and I'm sure with all that famous Italian hospitality there'll be plenty of Nutella pizza for everyone!!

Now I've never tried to organise something like this so please bear with me

If there's anyone who can help, I'd like a German speaking member to draft an invite to the German @ club, and also a French speaking member to do the same for the French @ club, and we need to find a contact in Benelux, Spain and the Nordics as well.

It has been suggested that once we have a list of who wants to go, from all countries, then Valerio (Italian @ club) could register everyone in one go so that we all get consecutive Race Numbers and can go up the mountain in sequence. We will probably have to do this early in 2008 (Jan/Feb) to make sure we get our places

We need to sort out race shirts for everyone (with a different flag for each country).

Also - is there anyone with a marketing background on this forum who might be able to help in gaining minimal sponsership (shirts, ferries, etc - is it worth approaching Honda as it's the @ 20th Anniversary?)

I know that there will be at least 20 from Italy going and it would be great if we could muster around 50 from all over Europe to celebrate the @ at Erzberg......

What we really need to do from here, is to get an idea of numbers and who, if anyone, would be happy to help out with some organising/marketing. I've got tons of ideas but am not sure who I should be approaching regarding sponsorship/marketing, so all help gratefully received.

If you're interested, either as a "maybe" or a "definite" can you post here and once I've got an idea of numbers we can go from there.

This has the potential to be THE event for 2008 especially if we can get @s from all over Europe - we'e all seen and drooled over Breeze's pics (here & here) from last years Erzberg - so let's see if we can get a BIG PARTY on the Iron Mountain

Come do some rallies with us!!

A laugh if nothing else, and a chance for some full on fast gravel stretchs within the law!

(Actually, going faster than motorway speed limits, off tarmac, legally is quite an experiance. )
