    First Competition

I have an almost bog standard xr400, plenty of experience but little ability, also,i crunch these days rather than bounce when i crash but am fed up riding mostly alone and fancied a bit of competition. Wot's a good rally or whatever to enter with the equipment i've got? I do'nt expect to win anything just have some fun.

    Thumbs up Re: First Competition

Sounds like a rally would be ideal for you. They're less competitive and more social than enduros, i.e. people will help you pull the bike out of a mudhole rather than use you for grip. Check this thread for details of dates. Seeing as you're based way up north, the Ryedale Rally is about as convenient as it gets for you. There should be a couple of peeps from here doing the Ryedale, so make yourself known here and join in the muddy fun.

Cheers for the info. Can't make the Ryedale as i'm away in the summer but maybe one later in the year. Does your bike have to be road legal for all events or are some completely off road? I might have to put a few bits back on otherwise to pass an mot. Also are all rallies GPS orientated or can you get by with using a map and compass? Thanks again for your help.

    Re: First Competition

For the UK rallies the bike does need to be "on the road", licence, tax, MOT (if required), insurance.
They are normally run on "enduro" or better markings, with dayglo arrows pointing where to go, and giving some warning sometimes of turns ahead or hazzards.
Other events to look at may be Hare and Hound enduros, lots to choose from, try www.enduronews.co.uk for info.
