"Weisser Jagd Panzer" The white one
BMW SAFE HOUSE AND GARAGE SOUTH WALES
.
Start building up the bonus points now! Date is confirmed as Sunday 25th October 2009.
Right then:
Organisation for entry:
- Find when entries open, probably about December/January.
- Book Friday 23rd October off work.
- Download forms and fill in, send with a cheque, ASAP. (was £100 in 200
- Work out who will be there and book camping spaces, the airfield campsite is quite good, and works well for groups of 3 or over, ish £15 for 2 nights. (was £45 for the pitch for up to 4 people for the 2 nights in 200
On the day of scrutineering - Friday 23rd October 2009:
- Leave home early, aim to get there about 10 am. It will make the rest of the process easier.
- Park on the beach, leave the bike on the trailer for now.
- Wander up, get your licence, a simple on the day fill in medical form and pay £15.
- Sign on, get your scrutineering card.
- Get your transponder, and fitting instructions.
- Get your 3 free entry passes for the Sunday, remembering you'll need photos.
- Get the bike, fit the transponder, NB. no side stands, ball end levers, strick noise limits, good bearings all round, tight spokes etc.
- Get the bike scrutineered, they will complete your "scrutineering card".
- Take the bike to Parc Ferme, remembering you need a simple stand or cut to length piece of wood to stand it up. You can use a lock to, but if the bike is sort of in the middle it probably won't be needed.
On race day:
- You will need to get there, to be in bike kit and by the entrance to Parc Ferme about 45 minutes before the race start. It was originally billed as a 1200 noon start, but became a 1230 start. (We knew on the Friday.)
- The earlier you get there the closer you will be able to park to the pits. You won’t be able to get the stuff into the pits at first, you need to wait until the junior races are over and the pits cleared. We got in just after 11 am.
- Drive in, following the “Competitors” signs, parking was free on the beach near the pits, but spectators had to pay.
- Carry a camel-back. I drank 1 ½ l of water in my hour and a half!
Racing:
- All depending on how good you are:
1.The nearer you have parked to the front of the pits, the closer to the front you could be in the race.
2.Front the pits, you will ride down through the crowds, and onto the beach. The first “dune” was already causing problems, with people getting stuck and being run over before the race had even started. If you get stuck near the back here, you will miss the “mass start”, and all the “fun” that follows.
3.After the long straight, the first bend/dune causes the first carnage. Safety wise, near the back here is probably good. The sand gets chewed up and will be very soft at the beginning.
4.As the race progresses some of the height of the dunes gets worn away, but they are still high and steep. As the dunes come down, the ruts get deeper!
5.Goggles or glasses are essential, but I never had mine on! Too much sweat and an instant “steam up”. Blink lots though!!
6.Armour is also an essential, but the cooler the better – but I recon it is needed.
.
Weston Beach Race, 2009 Training Events?
This list is obviously not exhaustive, but I recon it will get one sort of fit (ish) before the “event”.
Red Kite Rally. This will be probably by first spin out of the year, a gentle run to test the shoulder!
The Longest Day 2009. Tons of time on the bike. Helps to build up the bum muscles too.
Ryedale Rally. 2 days of fun.
National Rally. Need to do lots of trail riding there!
Weston!
I hope to be doing a range of enduros/enduro practice days/MX practice tracks as well. I tend to ride with CHEC, Enduroland and I like Ashdown farm as an MX venue.
Who else is up for what?
.
Deffo there for the race, other stuff will have to wait to see if it can be squeezed into the family thing!!
Anything that can be done to help, lemme know.
