Off-road competition insurance

Hi All,

Does anyone know what the situation is regarding insurance for off-road competitions?

I am entering an off-rally in Poland and they require that you are covered at least 3rd party for the rally however my current insurance certificate has "not valid for off-road riding, competitions or racing" on it.

Can anyone recommend some companies that offer insurance for competitions that would allow me to do the rally and still keep my standard on road insurance? Otherwise does anyone know if regular road based insurance companies would offer a temporary cover for the competition at a charge? I will ring to see but I just thought I'd ask if any has experience here.

Cheers,
Stef

Re: Off-road competition insurance

Normally the organisers of such events can put you in touch with an insurance company. Is there any information on their forms or can you ask them?

Another point of call might be the ACU.

Re: Off-road competition insurance

Thanks Alp,

Unfortunately the organisers have stipulated that it is up to competitors to organise the insurance but I may contact them, as you suggested, to see if they can help.

I'll try that ACU thing too....

Thanks for the help

Cheers,
Stef

Re: Off-road competition insurance

In this country the MCUI (Irish equivalent of ACU) insurance applies for officially sanctioned events. If you're a member of the ACU I expect they've got some options for you.

Re: Off-road competition insurance

Search for MSM insurance. They have links with The ACU and offer normal policies that offer RTA cover for events as well. They know what type of events are common eg LDT's and enduros and also include european cover. My first quote was a bit high compared with my normal qoutes even adding 1 or 2 events with ACU RTA cover at 9 quid a shot but a couple of days later they got back and matched my existing qoute but also provided 12 months comp RTA and 60 days euro cover.

Re: Off-road competition insurance

Thanks SteveR, I'll give em a try!

MSM only do on-road insurance so no luck there and ACU haven't gotten back to me.

Re: Off-road competition insurance

MIS only do competition insurance ( mainly rally cars but see no reason why not bikes)

Tel: +44 (0)1943 884555

few of the others that come to mind that do competition insurance

Everitt Boles (aka Moris) 020 7638 0790
David Auden and Associates 0161 4407590
CCI (Competition Car Insurance) 0115 941 5255

word of warning though, most motorsport policies come with a horrendous excess and can quite often make it pointless unless what your insuring is irreplaceable. ( trackday policies can be £400 a day with £3k+ excess for a £10k car!)
