    crf 250r - road legal??

im looking at getting the crf 250 r, but would like to be able to ride it to my local motocross track, so am looking at trying to find out about road registering it.
a guy at my local honda dealer said that i should be able to register it with dvla, then as long as its insured ant taxed i would not need to put lights etc on it until its first m.o.t, which would be 3 years after manufacture.
can anyone shed any light on this for me??

    thanks

yep he's right but how far is your locall track cause the 250r has short ratio gearbox and wont like long distances on the road

Re: crf 250r - road legal??

    cheers for that mate.
there are two local tracks, one is about 4 miles away the other is about 8 miles away. would just take it easy on the way to and from track.
i suppose even after the 3 years passes and it comes to m.o.t time, the bike could have a daytime m.o.t and would only require a brakelight and speedo?
not sure on whether to buy brand new/ nearly new or go for an older one and put it through th m.o.t

yea what i done on my gasgas ec300 was tape the lights up(no braakelight swithches you see),you dont need a brakelight for daytime mot..you cant have any lights at all, speedo is not tested in an mot but it is needed on the road (by pc plod) basically all you need for a daylight mot is a horn (google seach buddy mega horn) road legal tyres a legal number plate and a little reflector stuck on it also i would advise fitting stainless valves to it as the titanium ones are rubbish and cause major problems to lots of people

Re: crf 250r - road legal??

Just registered my CF450r, now on a new 58 plate. Use the V55 for ensure you fill in the back page as an enduro bike. You need to insure it on the frame number, have a vertificate of newness, taxation (vat) paid forms and fill in the V55, you do not need to MOT it and they will only check the frame and engine numbers as it is classed as a competition bike. As fo an MOT in the future, road legal tyres, reflector, continuous sounding horn and speedo, done it dozens of times. Hope that helps. regards Neil
